A good handgun

Been in the market myself.... not lookin to go over $500 and I'm a lefty.

Had my eye on the Taurus 1911.... I like that it's got ambi safeties and has a lot of aftermarket products available... I want to switch the grips up to make it a little more "me".

Anyone fired one of these? Thoughts?

I've got the standard PT1911 and have no complaints. 1911 purists (or brand snobs in general) like to bash Taurus. (and in truth some of their offerings aren't well thought of) Generally speaking though most of their revolvers are pretty well accepted and I've read many forms where people are happy with their 1911's.

I've had one stovepipe (some cheap off-brand ammo I can't even recall the name of) and otherwise no FTF or FTE. If you find one at a good enough price go for it.

Noice. A lot of .40s can be converted to .22. Look for a conversion kit for that model. Probably pick it up for 100 or less and you'll save that in ammo

I'm going to start looking hard for a gun this summer and then make a purchase after christmas. Think I am either going to get the sig p229, colt 1911, or, if I really go all out, USP .45. It's going to take a lot of plasma to get any of those haha

I didn't read the whole thread, but, what is reason for buying? If it's just to have something to shoot, go with the .22. Hell, even for personal protection it should be fine around the house.

If it's something you plan on carrying daily, I would recommend some kind of compact .380 or 9mm. My favorite brand is Sig Sauer.

If you just want something to brag about and show off (the real reason I buy guns) I recommend the Colt .45 M1911.
