A good handgun

With that kind of money and you being new seriously go shoot somewhere. For the price of bullets and the purchase of range time most ranges will let you try an assortment.

First just hold some and see what feels natural for you. Then shoot styles that fit your grip in a few calibers.

I've considered Glock, but i'm just not sure if it's the best choice for my first gun because of the lack of safety. Sly voiced a similar opinion. I do need to go to a gun place and shoot some. how does that work? you just walk in and say you wanna try some guns out? lol

Yea it's really really simple. They're goal is to create customers so no one is going to ridicule or anything. Call ahead to see that they do offer loaners for range time. Advise them your in the market for a handgun as a first time purchase and if they're worth their salt they'll make you a customer for life.. With your budget I'd be looking at used anyway and most good ranges sell used guns.

That's pretty much it, Indy. They will probably give you some sort of safety instructions and have you sign a waiver. The one I went to in Kville, you paid for the range by the hour, had to purchase ammo from them if using one of their pieces and you could shoot whatever weapon they had.

This is what I'd recommend to anyone serious about gun ownership. For the $50-100 you might spend getting instruction and ammo the ability to shoot a lot of guns it's money very well spent.

only problem i am finding is that the only indoor range in Eville is apparently pretty ****ty from a customer service standpoint. Since i know very little, i will probably need a lot of help with everything, so CS is important. maybe i can go to one while im in TN this weekend visiting family

do you have a dad, or uncle to talk too and go with you....they probably have some experience in firearms

i will ask my uncles when i am in TN. my dad doesn't have any experience with pistols, and i really kind of doubt my uncles do either. lol one is a chemist and the other just doesn't seem like the gun type.

Are you going to be anywhere near Knoxville. Here's a link to the one I went to when I lived there. Has range fees, rental fees, etc. on the webpage. One rule they have, and maybe most/all have it, too.....Shooters must be at least 21, or accompanied by legal guardian.

I have a Glock 23 and I like it a lot. Just a fortune to shoot. I am looking at a M+P 15 .22 or another .22 auto to shoot on the cheap. I need to go to the store and handle the .22's to get a feel for which one fits.

You will have that problem at most places, when doing business with gun stores, the employees are just a different breed than normal people. The best thing to do to get them to help you is ask them questions like "I'm looking for a gun. What do you think I need?", "What gun do you recommend?". Once you have given them their chub for the day, you can take the conversation from there. Unfortunately they more than likely will just try to sell you something that they just want to get rid of. Especially if they can tell you are new to using guns. Just do your research on what you want and get it. I will vouch for Buds Gun Shop. I have used them on my last few purchases and will continue to do so. If you have any questions, they have a good customer service department. Are you just wanting a gun for shooting or for protection?

Can't beat the machete, although I've had a few in the past. I could throw a 1960's 1911 in the brew.
