2025 Transfer Portal

It’s not a surprise. Coach Caldwell literally did an interview telling people they were going to sign a portal class that the staff felt could help them build towards reaching their goals that are being set to get to the Elite 8 and Final 4.
She wasn’t speaking any jargon. Straight forward they know the players they are likely to sign. Only on this forum are people acting as if things are bleak simply because they don’t have any information.
An abundance of individuals seem to embody the spirit of Chicken Little, perpetually proclaiming that the sky is collapsing around us. It is essential to pause, breathe, and allow events to unfold in their natural rhythm. Trust that our coaching staff possesses the wisdom and discernment to navigate us through these challenges and make the right choices.

Don’t think they’re looking for efficiency. Whole point of the system is as a workaround for inefficiency. Quantity of shots over quality.
I partially agree but the ultimate goal of is to get a higher quantity of points. Getting better quantity of shots is her first go to and then getting better quality shots is the next step. The first season she shifted in the year from everyone taking an open 3 to some players should prefer to drive and penetrate, and then finally wok on drive, penetrate and then dish if you need to.
We showed some progress in this, but had our troubles, especially in first quarters. I imagine this is basic stuff that you and most here already know. It just sounds strange to explain the system to others that we don't care about quality of shots. Just the quantity. I think that most of us and perhaps even CKC would love it if are quantity of 3s are also quality shots due to their coming from really good 3-point shooters. The problem is, super athletic players who are also great at 3 point shooting are a fairly rare breed and thereby are in great demand in the portal/NIL marketplace. We do have a couple coming in as Freshmen, but yes, it would be great if we could add some now or next year when the budget allows.

Watching film her game is not unlike Ruby’s but she is a little better going both directions. Will be a good challenge for Ruby in practice I think.

Whitehorn really needs to work on developing a counter to the left for next season. Once teams started sitting on her right hand she struggled a bit down the stretch.

On edit.
You have the correct info on her 3pt shooting. It's her 2 pt percentage that's a concern.
Nya for 3 years is 36.5% from 2pt range, 33.3% from 3 and 34.9% overall.
Last year those numbers were
33.4% from 2pt range, 31.2% from 3pt range and 32.5% overall.
so about the two point shooting, her shot selection wasn't great: lots of contested shots and driving into multiple players collapsing in the paint (actually our guards did this a ton this year). hopefully they'll fix that because she does have athleticism. i think she'll be a positive off the bench. she was a one on one player not a connector.

If I was an agent I would put a list out too making sure I included Tennessee if the players was a guard knowing a group of wannabes in the fanbase who feel they have authority over qualified coaches to build a team run with every rumor that hits the internet… just like the guard from Rutgers did through the media. See how it turned out. Folks believe anything on the internet lol.
Yea, but the guard from Rutgers is the type that Tennessee should be bringing in. She is a straight baller.

And the drama continues Kierra Wheeler who decommitted from Auburn for Minnesota after following Vickers has now signed with WVU.

The money is talking in this portal cycle.
Honestly not sure if I would want a player like that on my team. Just makes you wonder who is actually committed to the TEAM and not just wanting $$. I’d always be wondering if she was ready to walk away to chase the next bag.

Thats delicious karma.

Dawn Plitzuweits players at WVU found out she was leaving for Minneosta in a text thread on the bus returning home from the NCAAs at Maryland 3 years ago.

Agreed. I think her initial model was what GLV98 said. She was pretty clear about getting a lot more shots via turnovers and rebounds. Once she hit the conference schedule, the flaws in that system became apparent and she started to pivot to getting quality shots. But that is a big mindset change to make mid season.

So next season, they will likely start with more of a balanced approach than a "bombs away" offense.

Actually they aren’t making it complicated because it’s unserious to consider this 2024-2025 team as lacking height with the 11 players currently projected on the roster.
This forum has a group of fans no matter what they paint some sort of false perception of the LVs WBB team no matter what. It happens year after year. They want a perfect team in their mind which no WBB in the country is ever meeting that standard.
This is what they do and nowhere else on the internet is this 100% replicated.
We have scholarships for CKC to sign players that she need to fill spots, make the team better, and fit her system.
i think i misread your post. sorry. was working out and not paying good attention. yes, IT IS unserious for anyone to question our team's height. agreed.

Folks was talking crazy on here I see. I like how you don't back down to them. Coach Kim Caldwell and her staff has a plan and apparently it's working to a T! Nobody new who Zee Spearman was, nobody new who Alyssa Latham was, nobody new what Tay Coop would look like either under the new staff. Let me remind the ones in the back...Coach Kim Caldwell has WON every where she's been at and at every level. She also DEVELOPS players. So fans who don't believe...have a SEAT! We don't need players who want this and that type money. Nya Robertson, Kaniya Boyd, Mia & Mya Pauldo are fixing to be a problem in the SEC.
