2025 Transfer Portal

A lot of who we were in on came before the coaching change. After the change a lot of the usual people who know what’s up lost their source.
Some did like Latham and Ruby. Spencer and Dwyer came much later though. Not sure about Zee. LAustin Price knew about Dwyer’s visit at the end of April it looks like. I’d have to go back and look who broke the news about Spencer.

Spencer entered the portal a lot later.

Which is why people need to cool their jets a little. There are a lot of really talented players still weighing their options. Even though they haven’t entered the portal doesn’t mean they’re not seeing what’s out there.

Spencer didn’t enter the portal until she knew she was coming to Tennessee. Don’t think she even took any visits.

that’s what i’m saying. you’re gonna see more players enter the portal, it is still early.

I am wondering if they are sitting back and surveying who is going where to begin and letting the first dominos fall. With these big movements to top teams, it may cause a ripple effect where some of those programs players might see the writing on the wall and leave.

That’s what has happened. As good teams take their picks they tend to lose good players being recruited over. Best to be looking but not to get in a huge hurry like Yo.

I hear you brother. Reminds me of how I feel about the system. However, the system is staying and when DP says the recruiting philosophy is high school first, we can believe him. Explains what we’re seeing, or not seeing now. LOL maybe both of us need a new team.
Nothing about that means you don't pick up a portal post when you need a post.

The more I think about it the more I agree. She’s basically a much more talented Puckett. Similar game but way more athletic and a lot faster to the ball for defense and rebounding.

She's one of those ultimate positionless players. She can guard 1-5. She can run the floor, run the break, post up, and shoots just well enough that you have to extend to the 3p line to guard her. Perfect for CKC, not perfect for UCLA.

Yeah but by definition then you’re getting second level players, otherwise they wouldn’t be getting recruited over by the top transfers.

The timeline that a player gets in the portal or if they leave due to players being added in their position doesn’t speak to their value or makes them second level when they enter the portal.
That’s not by definition many players wait or already have an idea of where they want to go as someone mentioned for example Samara Spencer.
She was a three year starter prior to entering the portal. Boy her value would be through the roof in today’s portal.
I know she doesn’t have years left but if Spencer was entering the portal a week ago this offseason with eligibility she would be one of the big names.
For instance, I mean if we’re honest against MS State the center headed to South Carolina that’s making all the headlines didn’t impact the outcome of that game nearly as much as Russell, Jordan, or Powe for MS State in a tough loss to Tennessee.
Okot at 6’6 had 4 pts and 11 rebounds. Nothing against the player.
She could be a great pickup for SC.
Coach Caldwell will find a player that is a great fit for Tennessee.

She committed to basketball but Coach say she can play volleyball. I guess if she had said no then she might have decided on Clemson. For me it was one or the other not both even if Clemson was offering her both. I don't see it working for her or the teams.

Allowing her the opportunity find the right direction was OK by both coaches. Doubt either thought she was a 4 year player for both, but were OK with risk. VB could be a good out if BB is not a no-brainer. Maturity may direct her path.

what is really going on at UCLA 😩
Seems like an issue of recruiting transfers with multiple years of eligibility. That frontcourt was super crowded, so the freshmen weren't getting in off the bench, and it just gets worse with Sienna Betts joining. If Dugalic and Gardiner are both returning, then it makes sense to me for Barker to go elsewhere and start and put herself in a better position to be drafted.

Same with Londynn Jones (and Aarnisalo) and the backcourt. CLW will be available next year plus it sounds like they're recruiting Kneepkens.

Close is a terrible coach imo. Idk how she has continued to recruit like she does. Push finally coming to shove there.

I have never been impressed with her teams at all.

She took a great 2024 class then recruited over them from the portal immediately and didn’t develop any of them. Now she’s recruiting over veterans looking for the next best thing. Gonna shoot herself in the foot.

They down to the two Betts sisters they both should leave and head for Tennessee.

I'm fine with it hope she picks one team eventually though and puts all her efforts into that one sport.
