Maybe, I think the jury is still out on that for long-term success. Brenda has been doing this for probably the longest of anyone and has mostly maintained her success getting to at least Sweet 16s but hasn't been to a final four since 2015. The programs who have consistently been at the very top (UConn, South Carolina) still recruit very, very well from high school, tend to only lose 1-2 players a year in the portal, and then supplement with a few pieces here and there from the portal to fill gaps. For other teams building heavily from the portal (UCLA, TCU, Ole Miss, probably a lot more), we'll see if they can sustain this strategy long-term.
Teams like Duke, USC, and even LSU to some extent (and I think this is what Kim is doing) leaned heavily on the portal early on to get some success but then turned more toward high school recruiting to build their programs for the long-term.
