My brother texted me today that Lipscomb men won their conference, so they’re going to the NCAA! Congrats to them!FYI: Tennessee Tech will apparently be going to the Big Dance. Seeing that made me wonder how many teams from the state of Tennessee will be in the NCAAT. There's usually an impressive number of 'em.
I see MTSU is the 2-seed in CUSA's tournament kicking off Tuesday in Huntsville. Belmont will be a top 4 seed in the Missouri Valley Conference tournament coming up next week in Evansville, Ind.
Of course Tennessee and Vanderbilt are dancing. Anyone else from Tennessee with a shot of getting an NCAAT invite?
Update: Chattanooga is playing in the SoCon final right now. At the half it's Chattanooga 21, UNC Greensboro 26. It's on ESPNU and ESPN+
You may want to check in just so you can see the most unusual name I can ever recall seeing in wcbb: Frode Flos van der Schans, Chattanooga's 6'4" post from Amsterdam, Netherlands.
How was watching Kellie choke away her job today?
Oh, wait that was last year!![]()
I’m sorry Earl, despite all of that….that last play was indeed a choke job!Yeah, the current coach didn't get to opportunity to show how she would perform in that situation in the semi-finals against SC, did she? However, how many 'close' losses did she have this year? Are those losses 'choke jobs',too?!
BTW, the last play wasn't a choke job. Who would have thought that a player than has never made a 3 point shot in her career make one from half court? If you're looking for a choke job, look at Jasmine Powell missing two free throws, or the official who didn't call a double dribble after Fulwilly's rebound or allowing Staley to huddle with her players with no time outs before the last play.
Unlike this season, at least we were competing for a championship...Hindsight is always 20/20.I’m sorry Earl, despite all of that….that last play was indeed a choke job!there was just SO much wrong with the situation, it’s gotten comical at this point. We, 100% should’ve been playing for an SEC championship last year.
Give me a second. It had to be better than the heartbreak of walking out of the arena after hugging parents thinking we won. You cried didn’t you.
If you’re going to be a heel, at least be a good one.
Didn’t hurt my feelings, this team exceed my expectations in year 1 so far. My expectations were low based on the previous regime and taking over for one who was 12-37 against ranked teams, that’s cruel. Your definition and my definition of a lot might not be the same.LOL! Heel? Cruel? Just pointing out the facts of where we were at this time last season and comparing it to this year. Sorry if it hurts your feelings to face the truth!
Maybe they'll do better in the big dance... A lot of NIL money got wasted this year if they don't.
Need me to break the film down again Earl? Short version is we watched KJH wave off Joy's repeated urging to guard the inbounds pass. Then watched her move Rickea, by far her best athlete, away fm Kamilla and then away fm the inbounds and into a useless center fielder position guarding no one. It's an inbounds D Kellie played both before and after that play and was a senseless gamble that resulted an epic choke.I’m sorry Earl, despite all of that….that last play was indeed a choke job!there was just SO much wrong with the situation, it’s gotten comical at this point. We, 100% should’ve been playing for an SEC championship last year.
I don’t like getting into this conversation, but I don’t think he didn’t wanted her back regardless, if the RUMORS are true about not meeting with her all year and low NIL funds, that tells me he wanted her gone.It was a triple choke as couldn't make the free throws that would've won it. Ref choked as Fulwilly double dribbled all the way to half court without a call. Kellie choked failed to guard the inbounds and Rickea Jackson had no clue where she was supposed to be. I am totally sure Kellie was coming back if we won that game not winning and the way it happened was definitely a firing offense.
Nah, see above, KJH spent the whole reset carefully positioning her to be useless. Even though Joy begged Kellie to let Rickea guard the ball, which she originally lined up to do before Kellie moved her.Jackson had no clue where she was supposed to be.
He definitely wanted her gone, but dont think he could have if she wins that game. But reasonable to think this yr would have been ugly if she stayed.I don’t like getting into this conversation, but I don’t think he wanted her back regardless, if the RUMORS are true about not meeting with her all year and low NIL funds, that tells me he wanted her gone.
Can't fire her if she wins the SEC Championship. Would have been one game away still, and might have lost the next game. if she wins that game and the next she is still coaching this season.I don’t like getting into this conversation, but I don’t think he wanted her back regardless, if the RUMORS are true about not meeting with her all year and low NIL funds, that tells me he wanted her gone.
Hey, maybe that uconn blowout of south carolina will end up being a positive for south carolina! I always said that losses, especially blowout losses can "wake up" a team! They certainly looked "very awake" vs Texas!Ok, LSU vs Texas tomorrow as well as SC vs OK. With FJ out for LSU I will take Texas in that one. Could still be tight. SC beat OK by 40 the first go around, I pick SC again but by a much closer margin. If I’m correct, which I may not be, it seems Texas and SC are headed for a collision course rubber matchup. Probably can flip a coin again to decide that one if it happens. Pushed into a corner I think I would go SC, but that is a tough call between two equal type teams. OK and LSU will have something to say about all that tomorrow.
It’s been a helluva season for the SEC, and WBB overall. TBH, my most vivid thoughts on this season so far are about a myriad of WBB events…..JuJu and USC, Hidalgo and ND, Betts and UCLA are some of the positive thoughts. Uconn blowing out SC at Columbia is a negative thought. UT beating UConn in Knoxville is a positive thought. Mostly though, the season was the most competitive I have witnessed in the 14 years I have followed closely, and that is a good sign for the game of WBB.
It was a good year for the sport. A year to build upon, and a year that will take another step forward towards the growth of this game of WBB that we all love to watch. And so many amazing young players enter the collegiate ranks every year now. I’m most interested in watching the new waves as they join college teams, but I keep my eyes on the players already here that are excelling.
It’s amazing how much this game has grown the past 4-5 years. 19 million people reportedly watched the women’s NC game last year on some venue. Hard to believe, but it outdrew the men’s championship game. Clark was a big part of it, but she helped usher in the new era.
”It is the first time the women's title game outdrew the men. It also was the second most-watched non-Olympic women's sporting event on US television. The Sunday afternoon game averaged 18.9m viewers on ABC and ESPN while UConn's 75-60 victory over Purdue inwake Monday night's men's final on TBS and TNT averaged 14.82m.”
