So Memphis loses 4 of its top 5 in mpg and ppg. They lose their top 3 rebounders and top assist guy. They are going to win it all!

Come on. They replace them all, almost to the man, with a better, more talented player.

The people hating on Memphis are hating with fear and hope not logic.

We're losing our 3 best players and our coach couldnt wait to bail on us and they're loading up with an alum as their head coach who'll probably be able to recruit like John Calipari.

That's the truth coming from a UT fan.

If only Alan Houston was a basketball coach.

Yes, hire someone with no coaching experience to replace the guy with the best 2 year regular season run in program history.

Gotta love Vol Fan Logic.

Penny is no K or Cal. He will need experienced players and has one, kind of.
He also doesn't play in the SEC or ACC. He also has a former NBA coach of the year as an assistant. Penny acted like a clown on occasion, this year, but he has surrounded himself with good basketball people. If he stays out of the way and just recruits using his name, he is going to be the most successful coach Memphis has had since Cal. He won 20+ games with the hodgepodge roster he inherited.

Some good AAU high school teams could win 20 games playing in the AAC

You started that out by saying he will be good because he’s in a crap conference and ending it by saying he overachieved with a senior led team winning 20+ games in the same crap conference. I’m not saying he will be bad, but if K can’t get one of the best classes ever to the final 4, then Penny has no shot with this class.

You seem to be jumping to a lot of conclusions that I didn't explicitly say.

How is saying he doesn't play in the ACC or SEC equate to me saying he plays in a crap conference? The AAC isn't as good as those, but it isn't exactly the MEAC, either.

And there is quite the gulf between being bad and being in the Final Four. I never said he was taking them to the F4. Your original statement seemed to thinly veil the idea that you believe Penny will still struggle for success because they lost a lot of production. I am simply pointing out that all those guys are being replaced with more talented players, so don’t expect any sort of drop off from a team he managed to win 20+ games with. Whether he makes it to the F4 is an entirely different conversation, and as you proved with your Coach K example, involves a lot of good fortune as much as it does talent.

Three straight 5A State Championships isn't a bad resume. Similar AAU success. 20+ wins this year with not one NBA prospect. Played UCF and Cincinnati close. Scared UT to death. Not bad for a team coming off a year where they lost their exhibition game to CBU.

Can’t take anyone seriously who doesn’t state the truth. Tubby never lost to CBU. Had a player who was probably runner up for conference player of the year.
