Unlike so many, I'm not ready to lower my expectations for our players and our coaching staff.
Us having a few bad years is the only reason for out record being so bad. The only exception I would make would be SC when Spurrier was there. He improved their program when Holtz could not. Spurrier gained my respect by making them something from nothing, until he quit mid season due to the thought of losing to Tn coached by Butch. The rest of the scrub teams have had little to do with our losses other than they were on our schedule. The others are just not much better. They have improve some but not enough to be consider toss ups by me.
I can't say with a straight face that Vandy is a good team that deserves respect. Same goes for Ky, Mo and SC(Now that Spurrier is gone.).
I think I know what you are trying to say. The funny thing about this whole back and forth is you all are both essentially saying the same thing.
You're saying that you have little respect for several opponents on the schedule. It's not what they are or what they are doing, it's what Tennessee is not doing. They're not good. Tennessee has been bad.
The other point of view does not dispute that some of these other teams are bad. It's just that since Tennessee is bad, you can't look at everyone else as being bad. Tennessee is right there with them. Until they prove otherwise, there is no such thing as a scrub for Tennessee because Tennessee is a scrub.
I don't think anyone is disputing that when the Tennessee program is run properly that they won't beat those "scrubs".
I think part of the disagreement is how long will it take for Tennessee, when run properly, to resume beating these "scrubs" with regularity.
