'19 CA QB JT Daniels (Georgia commit)

I can't believe there is still this much discussion about JG and people defending him... If this kid (JTD) can make it to UT, there will be 2-3 better QB's in the room than JG. I scratch my head wondering if I'm the only one that has watched his overall performance the last three years... Say and compare what you want, I know the kid has tried his best, but at this point in his career JG still makes too many costly mistakes every game to be considered the starter. Sometimes it's little things like bad screens or throwing a 5-7 yd quick pass at mach 1, or sometimes it's waiting too long to read and miss open targets. Other times it's the inability to go through his progressions and stare down the primary and almost, or costing us a catch or interception. He is just too inconsistent across the board and a liability every game. Every time the kid drops back I hold my breath still... I respect the kid for trying and giving his all in orange, but there are simply better and safer options at this point, especially if this kid becomes a Vol. If this kid can make it on campus, this program will take a HUGE step forward instantly and at the perfect time as we are trending upward. The focus can then be put on the O line, WR's routes, LB's and secondary, etc... we won't be worrying about the QB position anymore...

QB’s can LOSE games. Kelly won many that were lost. Kelly was known as a comeback king. I remember stating that he could lead us back from any deficit...but he would be the reason we were down so far in the first place. I get your point, but Kelly belongs on a list of successful Vol QBs.

Nothing to do with AK...but I feel like that point is too often lost at times. Like people talking up Bo Nix vs Oregon because of the gamewinning pass (which, on review, was a bad pass as well)...but they were there to begin with because of his play and only the defense kept them in it.

"Hey, JG isn't the worst QB we've ever had! We don't need that 5 star transfer QB that all the analysts and coaches are saying has the potential to go Pro after next season! We'll be fine!"

smh
Like Rucker's article pointed out...gotta take them ALL. If you don't constantly try to recruit guys to take the current players' jobs, then someone will take your job.

Doesn't matter what fans think, Pruitt WANTS THEM ALL.

Disagree his mental clock wasn’t there same can be said for JG and he has a better Oline than Worley ever did. JG is averaging 180 yards a game here at UT (Total) that’s horrible lol just sayin
I agree that we disagree. Both had horrible OL’s starting out. JG won more when the OL in front of him improved. Absent that eventuality for Worley, JG’s de facto better.

Watched him plenty

check the stats. They on my side
Surprisingly, I was shocked with the ints to TDs ratio, but he still won and JG couldn't carry his Rhea Co. jock. Btw, that pass to Pickens that got picked (ND), would have won the game, unless Rocket ran back the KO. Just a little underthrown. But, the eye test wins on the stats this time. Still, u brought it, a little bit

I just can’t agree that he was “good”. I think in the era he played in he got a lot of the good ole TENNESSEE boy benefit of the doubt. His stats were down right awful and that’s shocking to me with all the talent he played with.

I don’t think a player that threw 38 picks which was more than his touchdowns would ever be considered good in this day and age of social media and message boards. He was just a good ole Tennessee boy but a bad QB imo

Different time and different football. He actually had really good stats for that time and era. Tommy Maddox was a 1st rd pick and threw 33 tds and 30 ints in two seasons. He threw 16tds and 16 ints and went in the first round the same year as Kelly's SR year. Kelly was actually really good for that time and top 10 in almost every category.

Well, I think JT can be better than both JG and Kelly, next year. So, please give me this kid at UT. Plus, this kid has that "IT" factor. Pretty boy, calm California (UT has had mad success with Cali QBs) QB, former 5 star that has played and balled out against elite college competition and has a relationship with Tee Martin. I think it's a done deal, especially now that we are trending. If he doesn't get instant eligibility, things change and he may not leave the Trojans. But, other than that, I think JT is on commitment watch. I'm rambling, now, puff, puff, pass

I know JG has had some bad oline play in front of him but he has shown that one bad play can completely throw him out of rhythm. He spins into trouble instead of moving up in the pocket. And, he makes some really poor decisions.

He has all the tools if he can put it together but can he.

Is there any info out there that JT Daniels is interested in UT? I know almost everyone on VN would like to see him here.

Nah, one of the things that used to drive me nuts was how great receivers pumped up Kelly’s stats. It was pre-YouTube back then but I remember wishing someone would do a compilation video of his completions to show just how many were great snags of bad passes.

It’s funny, I used to rail about him so much back then that one year when my wife (who doesn’t follow UT football closely) got me a Vols sweatshirt for a bday gift, she cut out a number 8 from fabric and pinned it onto the shirt just to mess with me.

This is great.

QB bashing is timeless, it's just that time heals a lot of it. The Dobbs whining was insufferable while he was here 😑
