'19 CA QB JT Daniels (Georgia commit)

I don’t see why this is so hard to comprehend for people

Daniels is a day 2 NFL talent at QB. Maybe even day 1 if he reaches max potential He’s most likely a 1 and done guy if he gets eligible.

It gives Bailey the opportunity to redshirt and he takes the reigns in 2021. He won’t transfer. If he cared that much about being the guy as a freshman, he wouldn’t have came here to begin with knowing he’d have to deal with JG. He’d likely be at Georgia Tech or something. He’s not scared of competition.

We may have 6 QBs on the roster but we only have ONE good one, and he’s never played. JG is what he is and no coach will ever fix him. Shrout has a ceiling and it’s not very high. Maurer is busy partying with UF students while everyone else is working to get better. Holiday is likely a WR. Kasim could potentially move positions as well.

Take him and don’t look back. Worst case scenario is Bailey has a solid backup for 2 years before he goes transfers again to Colorado or something. Best case scenario is he shows up, goes off and throws for 30 TDs and behind our OL makes us a 10-11 win team with a New Years 6 bowl game, which is possible with the right QB.

It’s the same thing that happened to Jacob Eason n at UGA. Would anyone turn down Jacob Easons production at UW for one season? Didn’t think so
too much common sense for VN. They're too busy arguing that our recruiting sucks and we never sign anyone that anyone else wanted in the Gooch thread.

Other than this kid being a "former " 5 star...

What do you all like about this kid?

I've not seen one person comment on his actual ability 😑

Not worth it imo. Freshmen year wasn’t impressive. “He was a freshmen” is a terrible excuse.
I’d compare it to Peyton’s. No sophomore season to benefit from what he learned. I’d pass because I don’t see the numbers to get him in as a boon.

Yes he most certainly did lead us to 8 wins. Neither Shrout nor Maurer did. It was JG. Time and time again Pruitt relies on his leadership. You can try and spin it another way but facts defeat your ignorant hate.

There's no hate and there is certainly no ignorance except coming from your posts. It's my observation that he led the team to a 1-4 start losing to GSU and BYU to start the season. It was my observation that he went rogue against Bama. It was my observation that he got bailed out big time play after play in many games by other players such as Quez, JJ, Gray, and the D. It was never more apparent than during the IU bowl game where he laid an egg after having 4 weeks to prepare.

To say that a "team" cannot win without a mediocre at best QB of any name is BS. Teams win games, not individuals. JG led no team. JJ, Trey and others were the team leaders. JG performed a role.

A freshmen in HS could have thrown to his receivers and probably done as well.
I think 2-3 five stars
2-3 four stars
Stephen Carr was a five star back.
All that talent and nothing to show for it.
He did win the starting job as a sophomore so the coaches must’ve saw something 🤷🏻‍♂️

Their offensive line was terrible, Carr hasn’t been himself lately, and I don’t think Tee was ready to call the plays. Plus Daniels wasn’t an early enrollee. Showed up in the summer and won the job. He’s talented enough that we would be dumb to not add him if given the chance

Or we could be smart and informed to pass on him. Lot of good choices.

We’re a good QB away from competing in the SEC. it would be stupid to pass up on Daniels
Then we’re assuming he’s a good QB or one advanced enough to display that showing up in August or worth jerryriggin the roster to get him in. The mere opinion of not wanting him doesn’t make one stupid. I trust the coaches to make an educated decision.

Well they screwed up by not taking a transfer last year. I like Pruitt and crew but they’re not infallible

For some strange reason some Vol fans have a hard time wanting multiple elite QB’s on the roster. They get attached to one QB and that’s that, they don’t want another QB as good or better to join the team. We say things like “can never have enough lineman or RB’s or DB’s...” But when it comes to QB’s many Tennessee fans only want 1 good one and a few backups to fight over the clipboard. It’s very odd.

I vote that our staff brings in 1-2 elite QB’s every year and let them compete. If a guy or two loses a job and leaves, oh well, sign another or take an elite transfer like JT Daniels if they’re available. It’s the most important position in all of sports and you can’t limit your roster to only 1 or 2 good ones, to play nice, if you want to win championships.

JT Daniels is one of the most accomplished quarterbacks in California high school history. Daniels threw for more than 12,000 yards and 152 touchdowns in three seasons at Mater Dei (Santa Ana, Calif.), leading the Monarchs to state and national titles back in 2017. Pretty simple decision to take him

You don’t keep them all and they run each other off. That business model has UGA banking on a grad transfer from Wake Forest. Ohio State needed a sham racist angle to get an UGA refugee eligible and then watched one of theirs win a NC for LSU. Sign the best you can every cycle but glutting your roster with extra doesn’t get you anywhere faster.

Go high school! We got one of those!

Not worth it imo. Freshmen year wasn’t impressive. “He was a freshmen” is a terrible excuse.

Daniels was hyped as one of the best high school QBs in recent memory. He reclassified and started as a true freshman behind a porous USCw OL and handled himself well considering he should have been a high school senior and the OL was poor. He then beat out true freshman Kedon Slovis to start as a true sophomore, which should have been his freshman year. His sophomore year came to a halt in the first game of the year. Slovis then had an all-time great freshman year. So, while it may not be 100% apples to apples, Daniels beat out Slovis who was destined to be a star himself. I think Daniels would be a huge pickup for the Vols. Is he way better than JG, HB, Maurer, or Shrout? I don't know for sure but I think so and the only way to figure it out is to get him here and open up the competition.

True.

Followed by a mediocre freshman season and a catastrophic knee injury.

Potentially won’t even be able to practice until late summer.

HS success doesn’t guarantee college success.

Call me a homer but I like our QB room as it stands. I want to see what JG does in his second year of an OC for the first time of his career. I liked what JT Shrout flashed last year and want to see what he can do year three in the program. I think Mauer is too raw likely and would like him to redshirt this year but I think Bailey could definitely roll in and start freshman year JG/Shrout ain’t it. Oh, and I like the idea of Holiday/Callaway rolling as a wildcat QB.

We have one spot left this year. I’d rather go in another direction than a QB with a bum knee who struggled against mediocre PAC-12 defenses.
