'17 TX QB Will McBride (UT Commit 12/13/2016)

Ok... back on topic, I think McBride would be a 4* if he was 3 or 4 inches taller. He's playing against good opponents right? Like others have said, there have been shorter quarterbacks in the past that have been really good in college
Just watched his highlights. My take on him.Great accuracy and touch on the deep ball and corner fades.Arm strength is good also. The down side like most HS qbs he holds the ball a little to long some times and stares down his receivers a little to long.

That's pretty much what I saw. Also, he's pretty good running the ball.

The downsides are fixable and most QB coaches (hope we get one) know how to fix it because it is a very common HS QB problem.

Speaking of running do we know his 40 time? He does look quick. I find it funny that they listed Dobbs at what, a 4.7? And he out runs everyone!

It boggles my mind how if you have a negative opinion, you're not allowed to share it on a message board. Or you get called a short sighted loser, mouth breather, idiot, etc etc. Or get told to go root for another team.

I'd never take it personal but sheesh..just because you don't agree with someone doesn't mean you start tossing out insults.

And I'm not taking up for people that bash kids..id never do that. But saying you're disappointed in this recruiting class & pointing out that a lot of the kids we're taking have pretty mediocre offer lists should be allowed without getting lambasted.

Some people consider having their method of fandom being cast as "accepting mediocrity" as an "insult". Issuing it in every thread ad nausem doubly so.

I never understood the Dobbs times either....actually maybe I do.

Here's my take. Maybe Dobbs 4.7 was fairly legit. The difference being that, where most 4.4 - 4.5 guys actually are slower in pads, Dobbs didn't lose any speed in pads.

His timed speed and football speed were the same. No drop off.

Having forward momentum helps too. Once you clear the line and LB's you are running towards people that just a second before were probably running the other direction while in coverage.

So, let me get this straight, if you are a fan of a team, you can never talk bad about any of its players or coaches? Regardless of the situation?

So let me set you straight. I didn't say anything like that and your comment has nothing to do with what I said. That doesn't surprise me really.

Or maybe he's quicker playing football than when he's getting timed. Mental thing?

True too.

I was always faster in the Marine Corps when people were shooting at me as opposed to when someone just said run. I guess it could apply to football and being hit by a 200+ lb man.

Both things can be corrected. I like his potential

Dobbs is one of the better running qbs I can remember. He runs so strong but at the same time is very elusive. He makes good tacklers look stupid in the open field.

These arguments are just ways of trying to prove to yourself its a good pickup. I hate when people try to pick out a non ranked player from 10 years ago to compare to a commitment. Can it happen? Sure. Will it happen? Not likely. The averages are against this kid ever being more than what he is, a security blanket for when Dormandy transfers after losing out to JG.

Non ranked player? Im not trying to compare this kid to any former player. I was just saying, people said the same thing about him you can't judge a book by its cover. Kid as great attitude from the footage I have seen he can run and pass. Give the kid a shot and stop bashing him jut because hes not a National top 300 player. Geez.

Texas QB Will McBride flips from Memphis Tigers to Tennessee Vols

He plans to arrive at Tennessee next month as an early enrollee, which will allow him to participate in the Vols’ spring practices.

“It definitely had something to do with it, just the fact that the spot’s wide open and the best guy’s going to play. I truly believe that’s how it should be done,” McBride said.

“And if I’m not the best guy, I’ll be a Volunteer. I’ll do whatever I can to help our team win. But if I am the guy, I’ll do the same thing. I’ll have the same attitude every day. It’s all about winning, and whatever it takes to do that, that’s what’s going to happen. It’s just about the hard work and winning ballgames.”

Dobbs is a high cut long strider. He's legit fast but he probably struggles with the take-off necessary for a good 40 time. There's a lot of technique involved that can significantly slow someone down.

Exactly this. His top end speed is blazing fast for a guy his size and position. He probably just didn't get off the blocks well. Probably didn't spend the time training on that aspect. I'm sure we will see when the combine comes around.

Are there any vids of him at like 7 on 7 or anything like that where he's throwing into windows or crossing routes? Only thing I've seen is him just launching bombs.
