'17' TN ATH Tee Higgins (Clemson commit)

We get every west team when they're at their best. Watch, aTm will either win or finish second in the west

I'll be shocked if aTm finishes higher than 3rd. Alabama and LSU are the class of the West with Ole Miss behind them and maybe a tad ahead of aTm. Trevor Knight at QB will determine what direction they go because they don't have anyone else.

In our defense, Arkansas played much better against aTm the week before us and also they played well in the game against us and the rest of the season. They started slow but finished strong. Also, they caught us at the right time. This team was dejected after the Florida loss.

Spotted Higgins at the Fulton vs Maryville game tonight decked out in all Clemson apparel in the stands...

On a side note, many players from UT were guests at the game such as Dobbs, Todd Kelly Jr, and others.

I think Auburn loses by 3-4 TDs.

Amazing how overrated Clemson has become.

Do you remember their game against South Carolina? They needed huge plays in the 4th quarter to squeak by a team that lost to The Citadel the previous week.

Auburn will give them a stiff test and might even beat them. Don't let a good day against Alabama trick you into thinking they are a juggernaut.

It took a fumble inside our 20 for us to beat them. Does that make this year's team overrated?

Too bad we don't play Clemson this year cause I think we match up really well against them. Would love to see a Watson/Dobbs battle in the Championship game.

They have an advantage with Watson and, until ours prove it, receiver. I think we are stronger everywhere else. We have recruited virtually identical with them over the past 4 years. Watson is what makes them great. They'll fall back to reality when he's gone. That said, I think we would beat them this year because they couldn't stop our backfield

No one is saying we're gonna be an unbeatable juggernaut (other than me of course :) ).

I never said Clemson was not good. Just saying they're not unbeatable. Going into Jordan-Hare is tough. They'll have to fight hard for the win.

I personally think it's a close ball game that comes down to who makes the big plays in the 4th.

Clemson won't get past Florida State. FSU is better than them at every position except QB. And even there, I expect Francois to close the gap from last year.

Nah. I watched them play all year. It was par for the course for them.

They struggled with Louisville early last season who lost to Auburn. They struggled with Syracuse. They also struggled with a North Carolina team that a few weeks later got run through by Baylor.

Clemson was good last year. But not an unbeatable juggernaut.

For a guy that watches a lot of film, you can't seem to recognize a good football team. I have no idea how good they will be this year but they were a very good team last year. I'll be very surprised if Auburn can win this game.

Your logic is pretty flawed, and definitely conflicting. No one says Clemson is an unbeatable juggernaut either. Just pointing out how bad AU could be this year (especially early), how much they have to replace from an offense that already wasn't very good, and that Clemson won't struggle to score points given they return their entire offense, plus they get back Mike Williams.

It's football, so anything is possible, but based on what we know about both teams, it shouldn't be close regardless of venue.

So it shouldn't be close between UT and UGA this year?

Ehh. He said they were good but were beatable. I agree with his stance. The games I watched Clemson last year, they were meh. The team they were in the playoffs was a much better team than they were throughout the year. Much better. If they stay that better version, then they have a good chance to make it back to the playoffs. If they take a while to find their game during the season, then I could see them losing more than one game.

I really expect the Auburn game to be close. At Clemson, Clemson wins. At Auburn, it could go either way IMO.

That your problem. You are prisoner of the moment. In this case you are a prisoner of last season (specifically Clemson's playoff run). This is the big mistake people make all the time when projecting what will happen every new season. They place too much emphasis on what happened last.

Here's why I like Auburn to keep it close or defeat Clemson:

(1) Auburn has actually outrecruited Clemson the last 4 years with 4 straight top 10 classes. So on paper they are actually the more talented team.

(2) Auburn's players have been told all off-season how bad they are, how great Clemson is, and how they have no chance. I always like picking the talented team that underachieved the year before and has been told all off-season how bad they are. Those type of teams typically come out super motivated the following year and surprise everyone (see Florida last year).

(3) People give Clemson too much credit for ALMOST beating Alabama. What they forget is Auburn played Alabama just as tough if challenging Alabama is the benchmark for whether you are a great team.

I think the Clemson/Auburn game is a TOSS-UP. And I'm actually leaning to picking Auburn to win right now.

Auburn may have outrecruited Clemson on paper, but that's where it stops. I can't believe you put so much stock in recruiting rankings over what you see on the field.

Clemson returns almost all of their offense PLUS gains Mike Williams back. Do you think they just forgot how to score points in bunches? Call it being a prisoner of the past or any other ridiculous idiom you want to throw out there, but I just fail to see how it's unrealistic, if not a near certainty, that CU's offense won't be at leasr as good or better this year.

On the flip side, Auburn lost their top 2 WRs, top 2 RBs, and has an unsettled QB situation. They already weren't a great offensive team, so it's difficult to project they'll be better than they were a year ago.

I just don't understand how you think Auburn will be better and Clemson will be worse without having seen either team play if you aren't going to at least use last season as a guideline. Otherwise, you're just blindly guessing based on recruiting rankings and some unprovable formula for underachieving teams striking with a vengeance the following season.

So it shouldn't be close between UT and UGA this year?

Probably not (depending on your definition of close), but UGA has more returning offensive talent than Auburn does and more time to grow as a team before they face Tennessee than Auburn does before they face Clemson. Injuries will likely habe taken a toll by early October whereas Clemson and Auburn should be near full health in the opening game. So, it's not exactly an apples to apples comparison, but I can see what you're driving at.

I'll say this, I expect Clemson to beat Auburn worse than Tennessee will beat Georgia, whatever the margin.

You know what the sad thing about D4H is? Here he is saying that recruiting rankings matter right? He has also said that recruiting rankings don't matter, only what happens on the field.

No. You're the one going blindly off what Clemson did last year.

Just think back to this time LAST YEAR. Ohio State was the unanimous #1. They were an unbeatable juggernaut that was filled to the brim with NFL prospects. They had a super easy schedule and everyone was picking them to roll through it with ease. Why did people give them this amount of praise? Because of what they did the previous season.

What happened once the new season started? Ohio State struggled to beat the likes of Northern Illinois and Indiana. They lost at home to a Michigan State team that was starting its backup QB and would eventually get destroyed 38-0 against Alabama.

College kids are fickle. You pat them on the back all summer, they don't work as hard as the guys who get kicked in the butt all summer. Complacency is a big deal with 18-21 year old kids. Its the reason winning back to back titles is so rare even if the same cast returns the following year.

I agree with you Auburn has TONS of question marks. Clemson COULD annihilate them Saturday night. I personally think history is on the side of Auburn at least keeping it close. They'll be at home. They are close enough in terms of talent that they won't be easily outclassed. Plus they have all the motivation in the world while Clemson has had nothing but praise this off-season as if they won the national title.

College football surprises us every year. Don't be shocked by Auburn winning this week.

You know what the sad thing about D4H is? Here he is saying that recruiting rankings matter right? He has also said that recruiting rankings don't matter, only what happens on the field.

Now that's a lie. I never said recruiting rankings don't matter. I just said they are not the end all be all. If they were the end all be all, I would be picking Auburn outright to beat Clemson without the home-field advantage and the motivational angle.

I like Auburn in this game not just because on paper they have as much if not more talent than Clemson. But because the game is at Jordan-Hare. Its the season opener. And they will be more motivated than Clemson.

If the game was at Clemson. And if Auburn went 9-4 last year instead of 7-6. And if Clemson had been beaten by Oklahoma in the semis rather than pushing Alabama to the brink and getting all this off-season hype, I would pick Clemson to win. Maybe even in a blowout.

I like Auburn in this game because all the factors are in their favor. They're at home. They have no pressure. Everyone expects them to get blown out. Those are the type of games I like to pick the underdog. Especially when the underdog is talented according to the recruiting rankings (which once again are not the end all be all).
