'17' TN ATH Tee Higgins (Clemson commit)

I understand all the reasoning "why" Higgins chose Clemson over UT, but loosing a "sought after" recruit from Oak Ridge just hurts. I don't care what you say.

It has happened though. I remember a running back from Austin East went to PSU back in the 80's. And, Randal Cobb's recruitment was a debacle, but latter admitted. (Patrick Willis) Hopefully, a great year will influence several recruits.

Wright and Lambert are two of the worst ones I can remember.

Do we know that Higgins directly told Butch that he was committing to us, then committed to Clemson without letting Cutch know beforehand?..........that was what Wright did...and on NSD

"I definitely don't think it came down to just one factor. I think his relationships with Amari Rodgers, Hunter Johnson and even some of the other guys in Clemson's class were definitely a factor. He likes the Tigers' coaches, too, and thinks he could thrive in their offense.

I do think the numbers Tennessee's receivers have posted over the past few years might have been a bit of a consideration, although I'm not sure that was the deciding factor. And I think one thing Higgins is worried about at Tennessee is the attention and expectations he'll be dealing with if he plays for the Vols. Some close to him seem to believe he's a bit worried about being in a fishbowl if he goes to Tennessee, and he might have a chance of being in the spotlight at least a little bit less if he signs with another school. The pressure and attention of being a local kid playing at UT could be working against the Vols, to some degree."

Lol! Since when does a 17 year old kid not want to be in the spotlight? His recruitment and announcement yesterday says otherwise.

More and this made me lol

"I don't think it's necessarily over. Something obviously would have to change, but his recruitment is going to heat up quite a bit in the coming months. It's almost always that way for five-star prospects, especially once they get into the contact period that starts in late November and coaches are allowed to visit players in person.

Some people close to Higgins have thought for a while that he was going to Clemson, so yesterday's announcement actually could have just been the public acknowledgement of where things have stood for a while now. But with where Higgins lives and with how important he is to Tennessee, the Vols aren't going to let him go without a fight, and signing day is still more than six months away. And there are plenty of examples — Drew Richmond, who committed to Ole Miss in September 2014, comes to mind — of heavily recruited players who have changed their minds in the final months leading up to signing day.

If you're Tennessee, I think you're sort of glad he's committed. Now you know where you actually stand. There are no more top fives leading people to believe the Vols might lead. Now you know what you have to do over the next several months, and they should have at least a little bit of an idea of how they need to recruit him going forward, so that gives Tennessee a fighting chance, in my opinion."

Fort, Rucker and now Callahan all say they don't think it's over, but they haven't exactly been right with this guy, so major grain of salt there. Of course, "it's not completely over for Tennessee yet, so follow it for just 9.95 a month" may apply.

If I was Butch, I would be pushing the NCAA hard to schedule Clemson next year. I know it won't happen but I would love nothing more than Tennessee to beat Dabo at his own game. But they want to continue to play average opponents every week.

Those "close to his recruitment" mean absolutely nothing. That's the problem with this crap; too many people getting in 17 yr old kids' business. He and his family have zero obligation to say anything to anyone, who thinks they're in the inner circle. So who cares if they "lied" to someone outside their family.

You're right about the fact that they have no obligation to say anything to anyone. So why not do exactly that, just don't say anything??

Sick of reading about it, hearing about it, talking about it- yet I can't stay out of this damn thread. His recruitment has been high drama from the beginning- maybe it's best to move on.

Makes sense, that relationship that Johnson, Rogers and Tee have is really, really tight and was very well documented from the Clemson side before this announcement which was why I was worried.

I also think that if Tee was out of Nashville he would have come to TN, but with it literally being right around the corner it hurt us. He probably didn't feel like he'd be "going to college" if he went to UT and I can understand that feeling.

I wouldn't have wanted to go to TN as bad as I did if I grew up in Knoxville instead of Kingsport.

"I have not heard anything that would suggest Higgins had silently committed to Tennessee recently or anything like that. For a while, I think the Vols were pretty convinced he was leaning toward Clemson and that, if he did make an announcement this summer, it would be for the Tigers. His visits to UT last month went well, though, and I think there were some positive indications that Higgins was liking Tennessee a bit more. But I don't think the Vols ever had reason to believe they definitely were getting him. Some were maybe slightly surprised, and they were definitely a bit disappointed. But I think they realized the writing had been on the wall for a while now despite the recent momentum Tennessee had started to build with Higgins." - Callahan

So we just had the blinders on for months?

Pretty sure we have availability in 2019 and 2020...would be an awesome home and home.

Well that's no fun.. How can you 'enjoy your recruitment' if you do that?.........

Agreed with everything here as well. You now know whatever approach you were taking wasn't working and you can come up with a new strategy.

Leaves us plenty of time to try and get him back open to considering us later in the year and by then we need to have what he wants figured out and a way to give it to him.

Possibly. Looks like at least Callahan hadn't heard the silent chatter.

Literally the Clemson writers, National guys and our own 247 team had all said Clemson was the destination likely if he decided soon. I got very worried when I saw Callahan say A TON of the same things that Clemson's Rivals site was saying.

But I allowed myself to be dragged back in by VQ, not going to trust them as much anymore...maybe losing Brice hurt more then I thought it would.

247 definitely thinks Brice puts them at the top in terms of paid sites.

I see nothing in this recruitment to make me think Tee is trying to avoid the spotlight. I was told that he was a real prima Donna, and this behavior supports that.

Tee is an EE-- graduates in December. Part of the reason he shut it down is so he can spend time with his new teammates and coaches this summer and fall and be ready to go in January. And he wants to help Amari Rodgers and Hunter Johnson cherrypick more recruits for Clemson at The Opening, including several that are high on UT's board.

Peer recruiting is making it easy for Dabo. If we had players like that peer recruiting at that level for us, our class would look much different.

Lol. Do wut? It's over IMO. Just move on and put our recruiting efforts where they can be fruitful.
