I believe our linebackers and secondarywill be better this year. The d line will take a small step back. I know it sounds crazy, but I think our o line will be better next year. Skill position will be better. Comes down to qb/special teams play.
No, I haven't. Enlighten me how untalented Dobbs and Ferg are
i just know what i saw last year. i dont subscribe to thinking we have the second coming of peyton on campus. i subscribe to recruiting the absolute best of the best qbs in the country that are ready to play from day one. there are huge question marks at qb.
while healthy worley did hist best. and i think we would have made a bowl game. but, i want to play and compete for championships. again this is my opinion, and i hope dobbs and fergie prove me wrong. i sure as **** think the rest of the talent is there. i just think that if they were that talented they would have started over worley.
we are an elite qb away from competin for secc's in 2015.
Expecting a true freshman QB to start for UT in '15 is incredibly unrealistic. No matter which QB UT signs in '15 they're almost certainly going to redshirt unless we have multiple injuries at the position.
How many TRUE freshman QB's have been successful lately in the SEC? Don't be so quick to write off Dobbs and Ferguson.
I can see it now with some of our fans, Gentry (or whichever QB we land) signs with UT in '15, redshirts, and because he didn't "beat out" Dobbs or Ferguson he's no good and will be recruited over in '16. Sigh.
Going to start a little conspiracy theory here, but I tend to believe Butch was willing to sacrifice a little success last year to give him the best possible result 2-3 years down the line.
Cases in point: redshirting upperclassmen Marcus Jackson and Curt Maggitt, redshirting Riley Ferguson, attempting to redshirt Josh Dobbs, implementing a whole new blocking scheme when the old one was better known, and Butch otherwise implementing the new offensive and defensive systems without matching them to the players he inherited.
Fact of the matter is that Worley was effective enough to get by while keeping the 2 aces in his hand to "season" for a year.
I guarantee a qb like Gibson won't redshirt anywhere he goes.. Especially if it's UT. I'm not sure where all this faith in our current qb situation is coming from.. That position lost us several games last season. I haven't seen an elite qb at UT in a long time.
Gibson will redshirt at just about any of his top schools. OSU...he's going to beat out Braxton Miller or the talented guys waiting behind him? Clemson...he's going to beat out 5 star Deshaun Watson? Miami...they just signed 2 QB's in '14, including a 4star from CA who had offers from USC and UCLA. Florida...he's going to beat out Will Grier or Treon Harris? Both 6.0 4 stars on Rivals. LSU....he's going to beat out Brandon Harris? I doubt it.
The good news is it's pretty clear that UT is the best spot for Gibson or any other elite QB who wants to compete for the starting job day 1 and actually has a decent chance of winning the job. Gibson would redshirt at OSU, Clemson, UF, LSU and likely Miami as well.
The faith, for me at least, comes from the fact that our staff didn't do everything in their power to sign a QB in '14. They went for Cornwell (a 5 star who will be redshirting at Bama this fall) and McClendon, that was about it. If they thought that the current roster of QB's wasn't going to cut it they would have made QB a serious priority down the stretch. And they didn't. That tells me they like what they have on campus.

Cause it's just plain stupid, that's why....and they are posted where everyone can see...not in a private message. It's like speculating if your wife is going to get fatter this year or lose some pounds...just going to have to wait and see.I just dont get why people care if other people speculate on win/loss numbers. Who walks up to a convo their not even involved in and says "I dont get why you all would talk about that"?
