'15 LB FL Cecil Cherry (former Vol commit)

We stayed loyal to him throughout the entire process. We stopped recruiting his position. When he visited Texas, it was over. Kirkland became the guy.

Maybe him visiting was an excuse. Kind of like breaking up with the old gf for the new one. Other committed players have taken visits.

But if you look at the other players taking visits, how many of those positions have we stopped recruiting completely?

Reid is taking visits, but we've been recruiting at least 3 other backs this whole time. We had 0 targets on our board at Cherry's position.

Until Kirkland decommitted from Mich. We don't know if his sudden availability changed matters, and Cherry was told to look around.

Cherry sounds jilted, like it wasn't his call. Who knows, but seriously guys....stop talking like you know what the situation is. YOU DON'T.

AGREED. Cherry definitely reeks of jilt.

Where there's smoke there's fire.

Actually before Cherry started taking visits we told Kirkland that we didn't have room, and when Cherry started flirting with Texas we told Kirkland we had room, so yeah we kinda do know?

Thig also told him that if he visited Texas that his spot was basically open.

Between this and the AJ Johnson stuff we have completely lost any highground we had over any of college football's other idiot fanbases.

The kid was my favorite commit in the class but he got over-recruited. I would've loved to see him in the right shade of orange though. I wish the best for him at the fake UT.

Our fanbase has never had any high ground.

Brent Hubbs, with more inside sources to the program than arguably anyone, has said as much. He specifically said that the coaches told Kirkland there was no spot available.

Cherry visits Texas, and all of the sudden, a spot is available. Imagine that, right? If you have evidence to suggest that Hubbs or anyone else with inside knowledge of the situation is wrong, please share. Otherwise, don't attack people who are regurgitating information that you didn't take the time to read.

Since I'm feeling a little extra generous this Friday morning, let me share some information with you from a better source, Darrin Kirkland himself:

"About a month ago, we had been talking for a long time, but about a month and a half ago I reached out to them and let them know about my situation and they were very excited about it but numbers-wise it just wasn't working out," Kirkland Jr. explained. "But, after a couple of weeks went by and they figured some things out they are excited about me and want me to be a Vol."

Now what happened in those couple of weeks, you might ask yourself? Oh, well isn't it just crazy that those two weeks happen to line up with Cecil Cherry scheduling, followed by taking, his official visit to Texas.

Can someone please update me on the Cecil Cherry recruitment? He's been a Vol committment for almost a year, but in the war room they said he and the Vols are parting ways. Why???

Maybe just a LITTLE more proof you ask? How about Darrin Kirkland information from VQ this very morning?

"Tennessee was a team that Kirkland Jr. was very interested even before he decommitted from Michigan but at that point the Vols weren't sure they could take another linebacker. But, with Cherry taking an official visit to Texas the Vols used that opportunity to get back in on Kirkland Jr. and now they see him as a priority."

Go look in his thread in the recruiting forum. From my understanding, he took a visit with Texas so we decided we would go after Kirkland, who most believe is an upgrade. Cherry is gonna be a longhorn now.

We had come in 2nd place with Kirkland when he committed to Michigan, but he decommitted and we're going after him again. He'll be in town this weekend.

If your not a lawyer you missed you calling. Great exchange my friend, and done so without looking petty. Well played.

headed to texas. I don't know what exactly happened, but between Nov 4 and Nov 18, something happened to drastically change his mind. He went from posting VFL on the 4th to posting a picture of himself in a Texas uniform on the 18th and then mentioned something about the Vol fans showing their true colors.

We've parted ways. After being committed for a very long time, we evidently shut down, for the most part, our MLB recruiting efforts. Then a couple weeks ago, he takes a visit to Texas and comes away calling it his "dream school" and praising Charlie Strong to the hilt.

The question is, did we tell him we're looking at other options first, leading him to take the Texas visit or did he take the visit first and we subsequently told him to pound sand and began going after Kirkland, Jr.? Either way, Cherry will not be a Vol.

He took an ill advised visit to Texas and the staff immediately jumped on a stud prospect that had expressed interest in UT.

Not really upset about this, especially if we are getting Kirkland, but dang did Cherry ever cause a storm and act "All Vol" on Twitter. Poor guy could not even spell and sounded awful but I thought he was solid to us, guess not.

I don't know much about it, but it might not be his ability but grades that possibly made them want him to look elsewhere?
