'15 LB FL Cecil Cherry (former Vol commit)

From what I understand Tennessee has basically decided to part ways with Cherry after his recent visit to Texas. Obviously, they weren't happy about him taking a visit and being open after they basically stopped recruiting MLBs because Cherry had been committed for so long.

Cherry is officially decommited and should be removed as a Vol commit soon. UT was committed to Cherry, but Cherry couldn't stay committed to them. Good riddance.

I would be lying if I said I wasn't disappointed about this. Cherry is the kind of tone setter that everyone like on their defense. Hopefully it all works out and we are able to land Kirkland. I don't think he can stop the run as well as Cherry, but he is better in coverage. He would be a very good replacement. As for Cherry, I hope he is a bust, just like Dalton Santos.

Pretty sure Santos starts, and Kirkland is better all around than Cherry. Cherry can say letsgetit and hit someone, but has an attitude problem and doesn't have the speed to contribute as early as Kirkland.

Last I checked, Santos had 12 tackles in 8 games.

When you are the too ranked middle linebacker in the country coming out of high school, just starting isn't quite enough IMO.

Rankings are nothing more than a person's opinion on how good a player is and how good they can/will be. I'm not defending Santos at all, just saying that a lot of top ranked individuals are victims of being ranked to high for whatever reason. 4-5 stars is a lot to live up to in the instant gratification society we live in today. just my two pennies.

I'm ok with Texas getting our left-overs lol. Bring on Kirkland and have him shut it down and we're right back on track.

I see what you are saying, but aside from rankings, how do you measure a bust in college? He was also an UnderArmour All American. The coaches at that game were extremely high on him. Every fan base wanted him. He just hasn't performed as well as many had expected to this point. His college career isn't over yet. That could change.

So, something finally came of that indian dance? Just not what you were looking for.

They're both good. I think Cherry is better at filling a gap and trying to end other player's careers, just like his daddy taught him in little league. Kirkland is more fluid in space and coverage. Both are very good players.

This, not as sour grapes over the flip, but the dumbest thing about this move for him. His best interest does not lie in playing teams like texas tech, baylor, tcu, west Virginia etc. He is a run stopper, his weakness is pretty much what the offenses he'll be facing exploit first and foremost. The conference as a whole is a spread passing attack style offense. He would be much better suited for an sec or big 10 team in my opinion. Just like Santos would have. Btw. Go look at their message board. One main reason they're hunting mlbs so bad is because they despise santos and is a liability in coverage. We shall see
