'15 LB FL Cecil Cherry (former Vol commit)

They're both good. I think Cherry is better at filling a gap and just blasting the hell out of a ballcarrier. Kirkland is more fluid in space and coverage. Both are very good players.

Cherry is the perfect linebacker for the Big10. Slow lateral movement, which he won't need in that conference and like you said the ability to fill a gap and put the fear of The Lord into running backs that dare to go through. Kirkland is more complete package.

A lot of these kids don't seem like adults getting ready to move away from home. They seem like 12 year old little girls obsessed with attention and popularity. And get their feelings hurt over nothing. And yes... I'm talking about cherry. Aren't there questions regarding his grades anyway?

Between this and the AJ Johnson stuff we have completely lost any highground we had over any of college football's other idiot fanbases.

The kid was my favorite commit in the class but he got over-recruited. I would've loved to see him in the right shade of orange though. I wish the best for him at the fake UT.

I don't know that I would call him slow laterally, I just think Kirkland is better in pass coverage.

Where is all this talk of Cecil "flipping" coming from? Cecil did not "flip".

He thought it would be fun to take a visit. When he did, he got "cut".

Did not flip, was simply released.

Cherry is a good player but Kirkland is better. I would have said the same thing when Kirkland was with Michigan and Cherry was a Vol.

Rankings are nothing more than a person's opinion on how good a player is and how good they can/will be. I'm not defending Santos at all, just saying that a lot of top ranked individuals are victims of being ranked to high for whatever reason. 4-5 stars is a lot to live up to in the instant gratification society we live in today. just my two pennies.

I'm ok with Texas getting our left-overs lol. Bring on Kirkland and have him shut it down and we're right back on track.

Left overs? Lol in the first 50 pages some called him Butch's biggest get yet. The only thing that changed is he isn't a commit anymore, so he sucks now?

Yes, our left overs. Anything else you'd like to add?

Ps-his speed has always been an issue and if he would have shut it down he'd be a Vol. I won't lose a minute of sleep over his self-inflicted shortcomings.

Pot meet kettle. Some of our fans are no better. Acting butt hurt because the young man chose ( voluntarily/involuntarily) to attend another school. Don't just throw stuff to the wall to see what sticks...there have never been grade concerns.

LB Cecil Cherry says he will announce on Signing Day now but I hear #Vols haven't reached out. #Longhorns

What a dog and pony show, lol.

Just pull the offer off of the table. Let Hubbs and everyone know. It's clear. Don't let him have any more drama from this. :boredom:

This, not as sour grapes over the flip, but the dumbest thing about this move for him. His best interest does not lie in playing teams like texas tech, baylor, tcu, west Virginia etc. He is a run stopper, his weakness is pretty much what the offenses he'll be facing exploit first and foremost. The conference as a whole is a spread passing attack style offense. He would be much better suited for an sec or big 10 team in my opinion. Just like Santos would have. Btw. Go look at their message board. One main reason they're hunting mlbs so bad is because they despise santos and is a liability in coverage. We shall see

Santos was an undersized DT playing MLB.

Not really upset about this, especially if we are getting Kirkland, but dang did Cherry ever cause a storm and act "All Vol" on Twitter. Poor guy could not even spell and sounded awful but I thought he was solid to us, guess not.

I wonder what came first, we pursued other LB's or he pursued Texas? This guy was our most vocal commit besides Kahlil

We stayed loyal to him throughout the entire process. We stopped recruiting his position. When he visited Texas, it was over. Kirkland became the guy.
