They're both good. I think Cherry is better at filling a gap and just blasting the hell out of a ballcarrier. Kirkland is more fluid in space and coverage. Both are very good players.
Cherry is the perfect linebacker for the Big10. Slow lateral movement, which he won't need in that conference and like you said the ability to fill a gap and put the fear of The Lord into running backs that dare to go through. Kirkland is more complete package.
