'15 FL QB/WR/DB (anything he wants) Torrance Gibson

Y'all know Gibson had a five star running back and a four star (dynamic) wide receiver last season, correct? Turned a lot of those screen passes into long TD's.

True but Gibson also played against wayyyy better competition than any of the other QBs on our board. I'd imagine the adjustment to an SEC defense's speed won't be as hard for Gibson as it would be for Jennings or any other QB.

It's a double edged sword. Sure TG had great talent around him but he also faced great talent and destroyed those teams.

Jennings plays in a highly competitive district.

It isn't Florida, but you have to realize Jennings also doesn't have that same talent around him.

And Middle TN is getting better, as far as competition goes. Oakland is stout.

100% agreed. Gibson dominates one of the strongest areas of high school football in the country.

It should be noted that his division (5A) isn't at the top end (8A is the biggest).

With that said, if Gibson would commit, he'd be a take. I just don't think the staff want to wait around until NSD for Gibson to play his "this hat, no just kidding, this hat, no just kidding, this hat" game and leaving UT with only Jennings.

Torrance Gibson, like many kids in south Florida, grew up liking the Miami Hurricanes. He favored them early in the process. The 5-star QB, along with his offensive coordinator at Plantation (FL) American Heritage Mario Perez, will visit Miami this evening. Gibson will then head to Auburn this weekend for Big Cat Weekend. The nation's No. 1 dual-threat QB will announce his Top 7 before his Miami visit tonight. Stay tuned to 247Sports.com for the in-depth release of his final cut and the latest scoop on the recruitment of the No. 5 overall recruit in Florida.

Smells fishy. He is suspended from team yet they are taking him on a visit to the school they have been pushing him to go to

Lol! This! Any chance we get a Miami commitment out of the blue, and then he is reinstated at his school? If Miami is #1 on his list before he visits, then I would guarantee that's what happens.

Jennings in 2013: 1,465 yards passing, 14 touchdowns, and 8 interceptions. 815 yards rushing and eight touchdowns.

Gibson in 2013: 1,789 yards passing, 19 touchdowns and 3 interceptions. 1,063 yards rushing and 10 touchdowns.

And yes I know the mid state area is getting very strong in football which is great for the Vols but South Florida HS football is on another level compared to just about everywhere in the country. That's not a slight to TN HS football.

I don't see how it's silly to think Gibson is a better pass than Jennings at this point when TG has better stats against better competition. JMO

How is that?

Compare their SPARQ metrics.

Gibson has the better shuttle (4.38 versus 4.56). Top RBs run a lowish 4s. Manzeil ran a 4.03s.

Gibson has the better power ball (37' versus 29.5').

Gibson has the better vertical (34.9" versus 31.6").

The interesting thing is the QB from Texas that UT offered yesterday (Dormady) has a 4.15s shuttle which would put him in the Top 15 for all QBs that have run the shuttle since 2006 in the NFL draft. He also landed a 36' power ball.

I'm not saying these metrics are a one-all-end-all in who would be the best QB. They're simply measurables to determine physical abilities.

I hope we get both

Now that I agree with.

And I'll say this since you know JJ personally. I think Jennings is one of the best athletes to come out of TN in a long time. That kid is a freak athletically and I'm pretty damn stoked he's a Vol. :hi:

Michel took many a screen to the house. Same with Mckenzie. That skews Gibson's stat line.

Not saying I don't like Gibson, because I do, but he and Jennings are not far off from a passing perspective. Especially after we've seen the progress Jennings has made in the offseason.

I'd be pretty surprised if Tennessee doesn't drop behind Auburn, Miami, or both by the time this weekend is over.

Jr knows him. I just watch him at practice and games.

First day of practice last year I had no idea who Jennings was. Jr was a Freshman. I watched him for half the practice. I picked my phone and called one of my friends and said " get down here and see this". Dude is crazy athletic.

Yeah I could imagine a kid like JJ stands out by a country mile on the field.

There is talent on that team. Vandy looking at a couple recievers. Smaller schools looking at RB. But JJ shines like a diamond on the field in comparison.

And if he comes to UT I'm sure he'll get his chance to throw some screens to Hurd, Scott, Pearson, and the others that will hopefully end up going to the house.
