'14 TN WR Josh Malone (UT commit 12/4/13)

KY is definitely important for Dobbs. If he can't put up some numbers against them, I don't see how he sees the field next year. On the other hand, this is our only opportunity to show Malone that we have a QB that might have the potential to be a real SEC QB.

Jelly so we can slide Malone in IMO :post-4-1090547912:

If you don't have the horses, you don't have the damn horses. And we most certainly do not have the horses. We were all stupid for begging to have Worley benched. We go to a bowl game if he were not injured and post like yours are nonexistent.

You can be Georgia if you get the horses, which it looks like we'll eventually get with Butch. But you can't be Alabama with horses alone. You also need to be able to outcoach your opponent most of the time. Can Butch? From what he's shown so far this year, I can't say yes, and that is cause for concern is all I'm saying.

But I digress, this Malone kid would top off an extremely nice class. I bet at least half of the class will see significant time next year. I'd be surprised if our coverage teams don't improve dramatically.

I would rather be where Georgia has been the last 5 years than where we have.

I understand that to a point.

I get the concern, but given how poor I think UT's talent level and overall health of the program is, I'm not sure how many times I think it would have been fair to expect this staff to 'outcoach' people (after watching several of them play, I don't think there were a lot of miracles to be worked on defense for example). They managed to do it twice, and faired about as expected otherwise (if you adjust expectations based on the performances of Auburn and Mizzou). Vandy was tough, but it wasn't enough for me to have serious concerns at this point.

As was said, if you don't have the horses, you don't have the horses.

Or we could think that it is quite possible that we may not have seen CBJ's fullest abilities at coaching. Could be that he is in game coaching and playcalling according to what we have as a team.

Not saying he is or isn't, but right now, we do not have an SEC caliber team. We have some SEC caliber players, but way too many (at least of the ones playing now) are not. With next years class and some of the redshirts from this year....that will start changing. IMO, that is when we will know if CBJ can coach in the SEC or not.

I don't think that makes anyone an idiot. It's not like Worley was lighting it up before he got hurt, and I don't think anyone could have foreseen Dobbs struggling to throw the ball as much as he has thus far. But I agree that he was playing well enough to get us to a bowl game.

If anything, the Vandy game should have shown Malone how badly he was needed. North went down and we had nothing outside of Pig. Dobbs was off, but maybe it wouldn't have been so bad if we had another outside threat like Malone.

You can darn sure bet that's an angle the staff will sell

No Dobbs was supposed to make his freshman WRs play like All-SEC candidates while receiving no protection from a vaunted OL and no TE production whatsoever. Duh.

Scotty is blowing off steam with mindless BS.

FWIW, earlier in the year, when most people were clamoring for the QB of the moment, I said out best case scenario was Worley keeping the job all year.

In my previous post, I clearly said we didn't have the talent of other team's (nothing new there Scotty but thanks for the validation). What I HOPED for was superior coaching/effort to sneak a few wins. We didn't get it. Instead we got beat again by the same team that got our previous coach fired. And we're in the unenviable position of having to beat an improving Kentucky team to avoid a historic 8th loss. I'm now hoping (against hope) that the coaches make some adjustments to mold the scheme -- for just one game -- to fit our talent (i.e. Why can't we run more?).

I'm concerned about Kentucky. Not being a Negavol. Just keeping it real at this point.

I think we would have beat Vandy if we had literally ran the ball on every play, either with Neal/Lane or keepers with Dobbs.

Agreed.

The sack on 3rd 5 on the 2yd line should have been a run play. Field position was hurt very badly on that play

When we had to remove most of our playbook with north out I would hope that speaks volumes to how much he is needed next year. They will get them the ball. He shouldn't worry about that part

Many talking about North going down and being our only playmaker. Beginning of the season people talked highly of Croom and Drae. What happened to them, they have talent. coaching is beginning to raise questions. Not necessarily on Butch, but on several assistants. Where is our offensive creativity? 4th and 19? You got to be kidding!!

I can't wait to see Josh and Marquez catching TDs from Riley the next few years with Jalen Hurd running over LBs in between said TD passes.

Then we will kick it off to teams and have them face a DLine with Hendrix and Vereen flying off the edges. Dillon Bates will be patrolling the middle of the field with a secondary filled with studs like Gaulden, Kelly Jr, Berry, Sutton, ect blanketing opposing WRS on the back end.

How sweet does that sound??

If FSU hadn't leaked the financial aid stuff we would probably be in a lot better shape right now. Not sure he would have signed them with other schools otherwise.

With the talent we have CBJ probably did a good coaching job. The fact that our O-Line seemed to not perform to their alleged abilities our running & passing games didn't get much done. The lack of speed in the RB position and on most of the defense didn't help either. When we add the players that's committed and get others like Malone we will soon have a team that will play to Butch's schemes and we will start winning again.
