The week of the South Carolina game Ferguson worked more with the offense because they had Dobbs running the scout team to mimic the mobility of Connor Shaw. A week before in Georgia prep, Dobbs worked with the offense and Ferguson ran the scout offense to mimic Murray.

Ferguson was injured running the scout team during Alabama week, Dobbs was the #2 at that point.

You have to remember that the media had not witnessed team drills other than special teams since Oregon week. Any info that was out there on who was running with what team was carefully leaked out by the staff.

Throughout summer and fall camp, people put way too much stock in what players were working with what players in drills. This staff does not run drills in practice based on what string you are. They let everybody work with everybody to build a comfort level. The players worked together by depth chart in the team periods closed to the media.

I'm sure your next question is why is the next guy in line running the scout team? Because at that point, Dobbs and Ferguson were battling for #3, with the plan being to redshirt both at all costs. They went back and forth on running the scout team based on what type of QB the offense would be facing.

There has literally not been one official depth chart where Ferguson was ahead of Dobbs. CBJ said Dobbs had passed up Rf before the injury. Can people stop making up stuff off of mystery "insiders"?

all posted after Dobbs took the starting roll, wasnt it?

i think i recall Butch saying in a recent interview that its more difficult to win with the 4th string QB

I am not trying to be negative but his highlights don't look any better than Dobbs tape. Or am I just missing something?

Imo. I think Fergy will be the starter next yr. He has better arm strength and also can throw on the run better than Dobbs can. Not saying Dobbs is not a good qb but ferguson is better. Also the odd man out in this situation is Peterman. Look for him to transfer before start of fall practice

I understand and buy what he is saying about the different QB running the scout team each week to give us the better look in prep.

I don't buy for a second that dobbs was left at home for florida, a game in which a new starter was starting, if he was the next in line.

I'm no coach, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night. By watching the films, Fergs makes it happen with his legs, great ball fakes, and definitely the better arm!
I'm glad we have Dobbs too, but I think Ferguson is gonna win some big games for the Vols! Ferguson arm + Malone, North, Pearson, and Pig = Natty Titles!!!:yes::yes:

@3HL1045: TN football Coach Butch Jones said this on #3HL about Station Camp WR Josh Malone, "He's a program changer."

Sounds like CBJ isn't just speaking in generalities anymore

If Fergs is the future according to the coaches, it would have made sense that he would have been the host for Malone, he wasn't. Dobbs was. Ky's secondary is horrible, they need to let it rip. Otherwise, Malone will just think we have no qb to throw him the ball which he has stated more than once is a prerequisite. Malone is doing his homework.

Smart young man, not looking just to rob you of a cheeseburger.

Finding the best host often times has nothing to do with athletics. It's about outside interest and finding personalities and interest that mess well together.

a WR ISN'T a program changer, well, except for Kelly Washington but that wasn't a good thing...that was the start of the demise of tn football

I have been wanting to post this ever since the Georgia game. I'll probably get told that I'm lying but that's ok. I was at the Vol walk and met one of the players dad, and he said his son told him that Riley was the best QB on the team and it was not even close.
