Don't know about. If he is the reason for their success he elevated that program to its ceiling. I would say that is program changing

Are you going by his numbers? If so, can you name me who the SEC leader was before Matthews just broke it? Like I said, great WR, but he at least has to have a serviceable QB. All we need is a serviceable QB, we don't need a Manziel, IMO.

Franklin changed their program. By program 'changer' that means Tebowesque. Percy was good but b/c they used him as a RB basically.

WR still means nothing if they don't have a QB to throw them the ball.

I agree that Franklin deserves the credit

IMO anybody who holds the SEC record for receptions and yards is a program changer. esp when the team goes from a losing record to 3 consecutive bowl seasons

I want to say Earl Bennett but who knows.

I totally agree with you he made them better. I just don't think he is THE reason they went from losing to winning, I think that is Franklin. And that I guess is my definition of a program changer, a guy that puts the program on their shoulders. That is almost impossible for a WR to do. Easier for a QB and RB to do, IMHO. Good debate tho and I see your points.

@3HL1045: TN football Coach Butch Jones said this on #3HL about Station Camp WR Josh Malone, "He's a program changer."

Sounds like CBJ isn't just speaking in generalities anymore

The full court press is on. Looks like we are in a fight till the end.

thats where our views on a program changer differ. IMO you can have multiple program changers on one team. just imagine getting nothing but 3*/average Joe receivers, and then landing a 5*/top 3 receiver. if their ratings are spot on, you would see a noticeable difference, therefore a program changer. JMO on what i consider a program changer

gotcha

Sounds like the question at hand does it take more than 1 program changer to really change a program.

IMO in football it takes more than 1. Other sports like basketball not so much

Off the wall question but just wondering...would it be legal for Jones and Thigpen to bring one or more of the other middle Tenn commitments along for the in home visit? Like Hurd and Barnett, since it seems they may be at least casual friends? Give that visit a real fraternal feeling?

agreed, you could have the best QB in the nation, but if your receivers cant catch, your line cant block, and your RB cant pickup yards, the QB is useless.

see Aaron Murray when Marshall, Gurley and their receivers were hurt

i dont know the rules, but if it was legal, i think it would have to be one of the other guys that have already signed their FA papers

Under normal rules yes it would be very illegal but these new rules might allow Hurd or another kid that's already signed to meet them there. They certainly couldn't transport them there

you need to work for cbj, never thought of that. he can't take a tn player but I have no idea about a recruit

Jordan Matthews is their go-to guy, their game changer, their most reliable player. He has like 25 receptions the last 2 games. When their offense can't do anything else, which is often, they can always throw something, anything to him and he makes plays for them. Last Saturday was a case in point. The week before against Kentucky, Carta-Samuels had like 14 completions for 175 yds or so ..... Matthews had 12 for 140.

Yes, Franklin as their head coach has changed their program.... but there's no way he'd have done it without that one player.... hence, Matthews is a program changer.

Lotta negative talk lately. We're so close to a decision, I've just decided to play this one conservatively in my mind. We must remember that Malone was a long shot for a while. We have come a long way. I think (and hope) he's looking for an excuse to pick UT. Butch and crew can recruit. I want to I believe that they will give Malone the excuse.

If we get Malone, we will return to prominence sooner. But I believe Butch will get us there anyway.

This summer I thought we had no chance. Within the last couple months I thought he was a lock. Now I'm at like 60%.
