'14 F VA Jabari McGhee (UT commit 5/2/14)

I've got no issue with this commitment, I just find it funny the double standard many have. Maybe not you, but many have criticized Martin's first class and primarily the fact he wasted scholarships on guys just to fill a roster. Nobody knows what McGhee will turn out to be, as I've said I think he'll be solid, but his profile looks a lot like an early CCM recruit that many griped about.

Is all this payback for the relentless Martin/Pearl comparisons?
Could get just as tiring and pointless.

I guess?

Just pointing out the irony in it, this guys getting talked about like he's the 2nd coming, yet has a similar profile to a guy like Derek Reese.

Explanation?

While I think McGhee will turn out to be a pretty decent player, there definitely appears to be a double standard going on. This guy compares to Derek Reese in terms of offer list, but is being talked about as if he's a top 150 guy.

Derek Reese was offered by Tennessee before the early signing period when almost no one else was offering, and no one else did offer. He also averaged fewer than 10 ppg for an average HS squad.

McGheewas offered two weeks after the spring signing period ended, and almost no one else is available. He at least has some other SEC offers, and avgs. 19 ppg and 14 rpg for Hargrave.

I see an ocean's divide in between the two scenarios, and I can't help but see your thinly-veiled agenda peering through. If Zo was signing this recruit for Tennessee, you would be carrying his bags for him and creating every excuse under the sun for any and everyone to be understanding.

Tyndall is grasping at straws and taking guys that may be questionable, but he really has no choice at this point. I see very little in comparison in Reese's and McGhee's respective resumes.

Like I said. Those people are stupid. I don't know why you continue to waste breath pointing out the idiocy of trolls who don't understand the situation.

Is this kid going to be a Vol legend? No. Probably not.

Yeah, I don't get why people aren't in here complaining about mediocre recruiting...big time double standard.

Oh My apologies, I thought we were talking basketball not football. I didn't know Georgia, Auburn and Ole Miss were big time barn burning programs and battling in the sweet 16 anytime recently. That's awesome man, I hope we continue to fight the nobodies of the SEC basketball for players, I see us cutting down the nets in 2015, thanks for clearing everything up for me! I just bought my plane ticket for Indy in 2015. I can't WAIT!

Who do you want him to go and get at this point? Do you want him to kidnap Karl Towns Jr. and Jahlil Okafor and force them to enroll at Tennessee? There are very few options out there in May. What do you want Tyndall to do?

Derek Reese committed in August 2011 and signed in November 2011. He should have been a spring 2012 signee if at all. Was taken way too early. There's a hundred kids available in the spring with his talent.

For me, that's the difference. McGhee is a take at this point.

What is your point? Why do u think fans in your opinion are more critical of Zo's recruiting?

I liked yemi....was ok with Dwight and thought was a complete bust before they got on campus.....my only complaint was Zo signing too many that yr but I'm getting use to coaches filling it out and who they don't like they cut. I'm assuming that is what CDT is doing.

Pretty easy tie in. Certain fans apparently find reasons to be unhappy regardless of what happens with our basketball team. Coach wins 20 games and takes the team to the sweet 16, sign a petition to replace him with a guy who got us on sanctions to begin with. New coach comes in with very little time left on the clock to recruit players. Gets a commit. Fans crap all over the commit because he's not a 5 star McDonald's all American. Basically it shows a lack of intelligence and understanding of how recruiting, an athletic department, finances, and pretty much any other area in life works.

Well said !!!!!! I've often wondered about the age of some of our posters. I have a really good feel for the IQ of some of the guys just based on their comments :salute::salute::salute:

Trust me there will be if his second class is like Moore Edwards and Reese......from everything we hear is that the fans was right about Zo

So you scoff every non-top 100 player except for Yemi and Miller? Why?

BTO asked me about those three recruits in Zo's first class specifically.....I didn't have a problem with his first class besides the number and even then I know coaches correct themselves the next yr.

The multiple SEC offers is where you're wrong, that's simply false. Like I've said, look at his OV's...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but you seemed to have a problem with every recruit that was not top-100. I understand that you see them as a need to fill the roster, but I'm pretty confused at how you could say you were legitimately ok with them.

Like I've said, I can name 20 guys with a better offer list who are available. Are the picking slim, sure, is this guy one of the best available...no IMO.

If that's the only glaring weakness in my argument for McGhee over Reese, then you have a long way to go to convince anyone with an objective mind that their profiles are remotely similar.

Like I've said, ive got no issue with the take, just pointing out the double standard.

And Tyndall has about 15 minutes to recruit them. And just because you like them better doesn't mean he does.

And I call BS on 20 players available at his position you like better.

So you're saying you criticized Martin for it, but are ok with Tyndall filling his roster with anyone?

That's my point, double standard going on.
