'10 IL WR Kyle Prater

last thing i saw on him says he is now leaning to usc

On Rivals Radio this morning, Bill King and Mike Ferrell were discussing Prater. Ferrell said Illinois was the current leader, with Oklahoma and UT bracketed very close behind. Then he said that Prater was also interested in some other schools that he had not visited yet, including USC.
He thought that Illinois 2009 season would determine a great deal.

I don't agree with them. I think it's USC, Tennessee, Oklahoma and Illinois in that order. From the comments I've seen out of Prater it sounds like he prefers the idea of playing in a pro style offense. He may very well end up at Illinois or Oklahoma but right now I think USC and UT are his favorites because of the offense they run.

If my memory serves me correct a couple of the slugs said they would take Quantavious Leslie over Prater. They said Prater would only be good in a system with a big play speedster on the other end to take pressue off of Prater because he can't get separation.
Correction. It was Martavious Bryant many of the ESPN slugs said they would rather have than Prater.

This USC stuff is getting old. With the number and quality of recruits they are getting every single year, they have to be doing something fishy. Just let us have Prater. One guy isn't too much to ask.

I'm sure their hands aren't clean either. They do have a lot going for them though. They 10 or more games basically every year. They send tons of players to the pros. It's a big city with lots of celebrities and hot spots to party. They've just built a juggernaut over there. Between the Reggie Bush stuff, accusations of paying pro coaches to help and rumors of Carrol inviting agents into the locker room... I am sure they aren't exactly playing fair. They may be now but it sounds as if they were built out of cheating. I guess it's okay if you don't get caught. Maybe even if you do get caught... *cough*Patriots*cough*. :p

Haha, what would you do if you were Pete Carroll??

Hopefully we are in this position one day. It says a lot that we are already competing with elite programs for our recruits. Auburn (last year's class), Washington, and Clemson (for the most part) can't say the same, and these are the other programs that are in the same situation as us, with a new staff. Auburn has stepped it up for this class, but CLK has made it a priority to get top talent since day 1.

I for one am interested to see what Auburn does in the next few years..

Looking at what he did at Iowa State... failing. :p

Seriously though, he could surprise people with a much better team. I hope not and I don't really see the potential in him as a head coach. It was a cluster **** at Iowa State. I suppose Kirk Ferentz didn't fair much better at Iowa in his first two seasons though. 1-10 and 3-9 before going 7-5 in his third season. I'm surprised at how well he has turned out. Prior to Iowa he was 3-8, 3-8 and 6-5 with Maine. That's atrocious. Maybe Chezik will fair a lot better at Auburn. Maybe he was going to get Iowa State to .500 in his third season. The only part of me that wants to see him succeed is the Auburn fans hurling insults at him when he arrived. The rest of the Auburn fan base should kick the crap out of those people because that is so classless.

I don't think that's accurate. Prater wants to play in a pro-style offense and the allure of playing close to home doesn't mean anything to him. USC is his favorite school and it's clear across the country. I think it's USC with a slight lead over Oklahoma and then us. He's not really interested in Bama and I can't see him going to Illinois with a USC offer on the table.

If you watch the ESPNU150 show the guy the ESPN slugs are analyzing in the film room is Kyle Prater. They said he wouldn't produce any yac, etc. and were not to fond of him.

to be honest espn doesnt know the 1st thing about recruiting... rivals is much more in depth

Other than reading this board, I don't have much recruiting knowledge, but my impression was that Ferrell is not an idiot. That said, when Prater came up, I was expecting to hear USC, then Oklahoma/UT. So I was surprised to hear that he thinks Illinois leads. He mentioned that Cooper was a good friend and was in Prater's ear in a big way to come to Illinois.

On a side note, is Oklahoma's WR class pretty good as well (w/o Prater) ?

It doesn't matter what program has depth at WR or what style they play, because the kid will start wherever he goes as a freshman. To good not to, even at USC or Oklahoma.

I am still calling Oklahoma on this one. SEC is still pretty much a running conference. I know Kiffin is looking to throw alot more but I still think the bread and butter is running even in a spread. Pac-10 does a little of both nothing great either way, but the Big12 right now is all throw me the ball conference with really good QBs. He also seems to be a little soft maybe for players like Berry or McClain hitting him. SEC defense hits harder than any other conference. The Big12 is like touch football compared to the SEC. Ambles, Milton, and Cobbs look like they handle hits better.

Do you see Kyle Prater going to Tennessee?
Prater recently said he favored USC and that was when he was coming off an unofficial visit to Tennessee. Still, I really like the chances of Illinois here, and Oklahoma and Alabama are other powerhouse recruiting programs to keep a close eye on with Prater.
