'10 FL OT Chaz Green

I think we could see maybe 2 Olineman that are true freshman next year, we are that weak at the oline.

Reveiz already knows the defense. Despite limitations with speed and size, he was playing GREAT before the injury.

I wasn't really talking about knowing the plays and the defense. I was talking about being football ready and in football shape...

I'm assuming that Reveiz is back at the same speed he was starting this season. That's obviously in question.

I will never second guess Monte, The D was solid with Reveiz and him being hurt this year hurt us in a bad wau. Im saying with the talent we may bring in, I expect he may fall down the depth chart next year. We do not have to have some weird kind of loyalty to a guy b/c he has played well for 5 games his junior year, if Luc knows the system he will start IMO, b/c the talent diff is not up for debate.

Sometimes what a player brings to the team is more than just on the field. Reveiz was the leader of the D as a first-year starter and both Monte and Lane couldn't say enough good things about him. They were bragging about him publicly before the injury. If he comes back 100% no freshmen is going to replace the leadership, knowledge, determination and heart of Reveiz. I don't think the Kiffins were giving him lip service when they said he was playing like a future All American. How in the world would a true freshmen be able to replace that?!? You're star gazing a bit too much and your vision has been affected apparently.

No way.

Before getting a knee injury, Nick was an all heart player. He was also not nearly as physically gifted as Luc. What no one has talked about enough is experience. Can Luc be the QB of the defense? If he is mentally 80% of where Nick R. is, he is physically so many worlds better that he would start over him.

Chaz Green & Jeff Luc will both be starters for sure at UT next season if they commit.
Nuke was going to lead the team in receiving, Bryce was going to be the starting tailback by the Florida game, and Chris Donald was going to dominate the SEC as a freshman.

In all fairness to Bryce, him not starting has more to do with Hardesty being a beast than it does Bryce not being ready.

This conversation eerily reminds me of all of the talk about Jerod Askew starting this year.

Yea, no one (me included) thought Reveiz could hold the starting spot and it would be open for someone. Little did we know that the measly 3star King would be the best freshman LB...

I don't think Askew is on the same level as Luc though. Askew wasn't an EE like Luc will be either...

I am not knocking Bryce, I was just pointing out the fact that being an elite prospect does not guarantee a starting spot. There is no way luc would start over a healthy nick.

Good point. I think this goes to show how good Monte is at evaluating talent. I remember when he came on board, it was said that Greg King was the first defensive player he went after (am I remembering that correctly?). I know for certain he was high up on the wish list for the staff. I think Michael Taylor will be a lot like King--an underrated, cat-quick, hard hitting LB w/ a high ceiling who plays early.

Yes, but not only has Askew not started, he hasn't even contributed and is most likely red-shirting. It just goes to show you that no one is a guarantee and you never know anything about these kids until you get them onto campus and into pads. Predicting any freshman's likelihood of starting or the extent of their contribution their first year is not wise.

I agree on all points...

Everyone thought Donald was going to be the next Al Wilson too. It isnt how you start, but how you finish. Some people grow and become better after they enter college. Secondly, football is a mental game as well. If a player cant grasp concepts, just because you might be physically a better athlete and bigger, doesnt mean you will be better.

I always post stuff on the wrong thread...whoops.

Regarding Green, if it's being whispered in Florida that he's beginning to lean here then that means his "lean" is only picking up pace. As long as we play out the season well (TBD) and continue pressing him (practically a certainty) then I think Chaz may be one of our biggest upsets this recruiting season.

Parents - check
Early playing time - check
Strong relationship w/ coaches/players - looks to be so
Good position coach w/ good NFL prospects - based on half a season looks to be so
Momentum - currently check

He is an EE so this should work to our advantage considering we have made up ground so quickly and are currently rumored to be in the lead. Call it "Recruiting Inertia".

Chaz Green is not an Early Enrollee. He will be deciding on signing day. I will have an article written soon with quotes from him to that effect.

Recruiting Inertia [in-ur-shuh] (noun) - a prospect nearing a decision with a widely rumored lean tends to stay in motion towards said school until officially announced, signed and delivered
a. the property of matter by which it retains its state of rest or its velocity along a straight line so long as it is not acted upon by an external force.
b. an analogous property of a force: electric inertia.

Recruiting Inertia is a scientific law, proven by none other than Ed Orgeron himself. This message is sponsored by Red Bull.

Please tell me what SEC teams could Reveiz start for?

So many people get stuck on the circumstances that led to these players getting to UT (i.e. stars, offers, etc). That is in the past and does not matter any more. Monte said that Nick was playing at nearly an All-American level when he got injured. But you think a true freshman will be guaranteed to come in and beat him out a position responsible for being the QB of the defense. Come on, you need to get a better grasp on what all goes into making a good football player. Its not just a track meet where nothing matters but the measurables.

I think we could see maybe 2 Olineman that are true freshman next year, we are that weak at the oline.

2 freshman olineman that start? Or just 2 that get playing time? I think Douglas, Schofield, Shaw all will have positions locked down. I also think Revis most likely locks down the center spot. That leaves one guard spot that might be manned by a freshman. I think Chaz Green would have a good shot to beat out Pope at the other guard spot. Other than that, I dont see a freshman olineman starting. I certainly think we will see a couple in the 2-deep though.

You think if the staff gets some Oline commits Sab that if he is leaning us that they pressure him for a commitment before the boat fills up, or will they leave a spot open for him for on signing day no matter what. Obviously, I'm sure the staff thinks of this stuff and will prevent it, but what still scares me is thinking he is all ours, and turning down someone (like a Leifhiet) and leave a spot for him on signing day then he goes somewhere else. I know the staff will prevent something like that from happening, but its still in the back of my mind haha.
