USC is selling the kid on Barkley playing this year and leaving early for the NFL. Nothing I see points to that happening. I think Corp will play and Barkley could even redshirt. I know there was alot of talk of Mustain transferring or flunking out. But he is back on the team and said he is staying where he is. Why would you waste a year on Barkley just to come in and mop up games agaist weaker teams.
Everyone is making Barkley out to be this awesome, straight to the NFL QB. I don't think that is the case. The kid does have all the physical tools to make it. He probably will. But he will have to wait his turn just like all the other USC Qb's have had to. He struggled with int's in the spring and making bad reads. It even goes back to his senior year of HS. 54% comp. 23 TD 18 INT. Those #'s are not that great. Yes decent. But good enought to walk right in and start at USC over Corp and Mustain. I don't see it. Especially after the spring he had.
Scroggins is from LA and grew up a USC fan. I can't blame the kid for wanting to go there. I also can't blame him for wanting to be close to his family. But the recruiting line he is getting is BS. He will be lucky to see the field at SC until Barkley is gone and that could be at least 4 years away. Plus who knows who comes to SC in the meantime.
I think he is making a mistake. But again could you tell your son to go to SC if UT offered? Even if UT was stacked at QB? I couldn't.......
So assuming this scenario, Scroggins commits to USC. But Corp wins the starting job and plays all season leaving Barkley to either redshirt or just bide his time.
Does that give the option for JS to switch his commitment? I would think so, either way I am afriad the recruitment of Scroggins isn't over on July 25th.
