I personally am tired of this prima donna "I'm gonna wait and put 3 hats on the table on ESPN and pick one" crap....Just choose and be over with it and either help bring some top receivers and O-linemen with you or move on and let us go after someone else...Just getting old. It also delays the other school he doesn't choose from going after another QB.

It sucks just cause we are the only school who needs him to hurry up...

the coaches shouldnt let it delay. im all for JS, i want him bad. but i understand the situation, and we need to not put all our bets in one pot, especially one painted crimson and gold.

we need to get offers out to kids we think can do the job, no matter where they fall on our list, while at the same time, pursue JS as hard as ever. show that we still want him bad, but make it known/put the heat on him, that we arent going to sit around and be made fools of.

i say we turn up the heat on recruiting CR for one.

heres a nasty scenario...

what if JS does commit to UT. its expected, or at least hoped for, of him to draw some hot recruits to our program. now fast forward to NSD, and he decommits. what happens to all the recruits that followed in his steps?

Yeah that would be nasty. That would be unusual for a QB to do that, but I guess it's possible.

I have a nastier scenario.......

Before I say this, I want to give my thoughts on the schools Scroggins is considering and what each ones chances are.

USC - 60%
UT - 40%
UF - 0% (I don't see it happening)

Now, that said, what if Scroggins commits to UF and USC then offers Rettig and he commits to them?

Where would that leave UT? Up the creek without a paddle would be my guess.

The 6-3, 195-pound Scroggins was long thought to be leaning - perhaps heavily - to UT due to the proximity of Knoxville to his mother's family, which lives in Memphis. UT's soon-to-be vacant quarterback position was also thought to be a strong lure for Scroggins.

There's certainly a belief that his family is split between UT and USC. A source close to the situation believes that he is still undecided.

Scroggins reaffirmed that he has no qualms about coming across the country to play football, whether it’s for UT or Florida.

“It’s not too late but it’s not too early,” Scroggins said of his decision to announce later this month. “It’s the perfect time for me.”

Scroggins said he will analyze his decision and make his mind soon.

“I’m going to start getting into the pros and cons this week or next,” he said, declining to name a leader.

Scroggins said he also decided on July 25, in part, because of the television coverage that ESPN will provide. He hopes his commitment will help boost recruiting for whichever school he chooses.

As comfortable as Scroggins has been with the Vols, he does have one concern.

“Just basically all the hoopla that’s going on — all the violations and stuff,”
Scroggins said on Monday.

UT has self-reported a handful of secondary violations, none of which is expected to result in any serious action from the NCAA or the SEC.

“I think they’re coming through it,” Scroggins said. “I think they’re going to be pretty good this year.”

Yesterday I thought he was USC but after reading over his comments again, I think he is a silent commit to UT and he was okay with UT offering Rettig.

I don't think committing to USC or Florida is going to help them in recruiting even if his commitment is on national television. They will get top recruits with or without him. Not to mention playing for Barkley or Brantley is a better sales pitch than playing for Scroggins. They were more highly rated and a lot of guys at USC/Florida will be gone after their rs sophomore season/junior season. It seems to me that UT is the only one of the three schools he would help in recruiting... jmo.

He did say he is worried about Tennessee's secondary violations but in the mean time the NCAA is doing a full on investigation into USC. Secondary violations are nothing. USC on the other hand may be put on probation.

Maybe he is gone but as of this moment today, I think he is a Vol. Just at a curiosity, whatever happened to Cam Newton? Rettig, Lamiason, Brunetti are all being looked at/talked about if Scroggins is doesn't come. Cam Newton was the highest rated QB of them all. Just wondering if UT still has a good shot at landing him if they don't get Scroggins. Would be nice to have him on board with one or two of the other three listed.

Where would that leave UT? Up the creek without a paddle would be my guess.

Nope. we will be recruiting quarterbacks right up until signing day my friend. No matter whtt happens between now and then, this staff will continue to pursue any top players they feel are out there. If they get all the top one's, that will stop them from recruiting.

If we have no top QB sign on signing day, then we are up creek..

no. we are already in the white water. we would simply drown before making it up the creek.

Yeah, it should be that way, but family and pressure is playing the bigger role here.

Yeh... and I don't intend to belittle that. I just agree with others who have noted that it'd be more fun to watch him play on ESPN gameplan than to see him sit... live. The Vols are on national TV all but about one game a year for about 120 bucks a year. It sux that the NCAA won't let families with needs like this get reimbursed for travel. These athletes earn too much money for their universities to not get concessions like this from it. I'm pretty sure if this was a professional draft, USC and UF would pay much less ;-). He simply offers much less to their programs.

Still, the Scroggins family can have fun with all the Trojan hoopla whether he plays or not. And, they'll have good memories from sharing his college experiences. It won't get them a bigger house and financial security, but money is not everything.

Everyone needs to stop being so hard on Scroggins not having committed yet. You wouldn't be acting like this if it wasn't for the fact Tennessee is in desperate need of a quarterback. Like 20 of the top 30 runningbacks haven't committed. Same with wide receivers, offensive linemen, defensive tackle etc. I want him as much as you guys but he really isn't take a long time to commit. Committing on the 25th will actually be sooner than a lot of the top players around the country. Some of you act like he is pulling a Bryce Brown or Tyrell Pryor. I think you would take your time choosing between USC, Florida and Tennessee as well. This is his future and we already know his goal is to go pro. His decision could result in millions of dollars in the end. We would all think long and hard about that. Complaining about it on a message board isn't going to make him decide any sooner. Tennessee doesn't have to wait around on him. That has been the coaching staffs decision. Stop blaming a 17 year old kid for what could end up being Tennessee's mistake. Our coaching staff is made up of grown men. If they are investing everything into Scroggins and they don't get him, that is their fault. Being the adults they should have been smarter about it. The kid hasn't even graduated from high school yet.

I can see Brunetti possibly changing his commitment if we fail to get the other QBs we are recruiting. After reading his latest comments, I don't think the kid is comfortable with his decision to go to WV. If we continue to recruit him and WV has a bad year, I will be surprised if he don't sign with UT in February. He wasn't our first choice, or maybe even second or third, but he was good enough to earn an offer, and I think he will remember that.

easily the single most important position player in a recruiting class WITHOUT a QB by mid july. this is the commit that gets the recruiting ball moving. this is what makes programs. and as you put it, we are in desperate need! i want him to come to UT, but if he choses USC, so be it. its clear where he leans now. come to a decision already. i dont want to call him selfish because its a life changing choice. but if you really really want to play at your home school, your favorite school, and then smile all nice for the camera when you are asked about them while saying that UT has been in trouble for something as stupid as secondary violations, then get on with your decision and spit it out.

InsideTennessee guy on the sports animal this morning said that he felt Tennessee was very much still in this. He spoke to his dad and coach recently. He mentioned that his top two choices were very close and flip flopped every other day, and the third team was a distant third.

He seemed pretty optimistic, but who knows. I have a feeling Scroggins has no idea where he wants to go.

I still think Tennessee has a really good shot at landing him. Outside of his goal of playing in the NFL, he also has to decide which half of his family he wants to play in. He also has to decide if he wants to stay at home or play in the SEC. If he wants to compete against Barkley or if he wants to start early. It's probably not an easy decision because there are so many pros and cons for both. I really think the comment about committing on tv to help bring in recruits sounds like Tennessee. I guess he knows a lot of players in the class personally but USC and Florida sell themselves without him. Barkley and Brantley are also a better sell than Scroggins. That leave UT as the only school he would really help in recruiting... jmo.

I have a feeling I know where he wants to go. I also have a feeling I know where his Dad wants him to go. I have another feeling they are two different places and that is why he is having a hard time deciding.

i dont have a problem with him taking his time. i have a problem with the fact that most indicators (via media, of course, which count for very little) show that he is all USC. what i have a problem with is that if hes so USC, then come out and commit there. dont give one program a bunch of love and the other not so much, and then say that they are neck and neck. we hear that he is undecided, but when he speaks it sounds like hes mostly about USC. the family thing is a big issue and if he stays because of that well then that is a 100% respectable decision.

i also understand that his dad likely wants him to go to USC. thats weighing heavily on him, even if he wants to give UT a fair shot. :(

I really don't think Scroggins' choice is at cut and dry as some are making it out to be. I'm not confident either way and neither UT or USC would surprise me at this point. I am concerned with all of the rumors that he is leaning towards USC, but Jesse had this to say regarding that:

"The rumors are like critics," Scroggins said. "They are never going to go away and everyone is going to continue to speculate."

He may have an inkling of where he wants to go at this point, but that could probably change the more he evaluates his options. Nothing is set in stone. We have a shot here and the coaches are not going to give up.

Hopefully that distant third is UF...:good!:

how much, and what kind of an impact do you think his coach(s) will have on his decision? i think its safe to say his dad has a lean towards USC. he mentioned that he is going to sit down at dinner with both his dad and coach.

First I think he will be at UT. I would bank that USC is putting the same pressure to get him to commit now, but the fact he isn't I think gives UT a lot of hope. I also agree with a post about helping recruiting. USC doesn't need him to recruit, but this is a perfect setup for the way Kiffin likes to get publicity for UT. What would be better than announcing on national TV that I have decided to go to UT over USC and I hope others will join me to rebuild them to national contenders. This to me has Kiffin written all over it, but I could be wrong. I wouldn't be surprised to see Kiffin at the press conference or already one set up at UT on that day. Think about it, a coach trying to prove that he can recruit and rebuild a program with the best in the country. To show that he can go head to head with the best recruiters in the country before he coahes his first game will go along way with recruits and doubters. It looked good with snagging a WR from UF at the last minute imagine this coup.

On the other hand if has already picked USC and is just doing this to promote himself and get hype for TV than UT doesn't need him, but I really don't think this is the case.

He also keeps eluding to playing with Bailey who has stated he is coming with his parents at the end of the month to visit UT.

I'd go ahead and plan on a few dinners for a decision like this.

My guess is, that it is. I don't think Scroggins is torn between three schools, he is torn between two. IMO, Florida doesn't have a snowballs chance of landing him. I wish he would just drop them from the list and narrow his decision down to two schools. I guess it is more cool to have 3 hats at the table instead of 2 when making the big announcement.

I think they will help Jesse weigh his options. I don't think either one will assert an influence over his decision. This is going to be Jesse's decision whether it's us or it's Southern Cal.
