I agree. It is just comical to see some of these guys flip flop from player to player. I am just pulling for a commit and don't care who it is from at this point.

I'll take any QB that can lead us to a championship.

Your standard isn't too high is it? I'll just take a QB at this point. I'm of the mind that we got over confident with the BB commit and felt we could get anyone. Well, thats not the case and we're in panic mode. We've got to sign someone and make sure we get a solid top5 QB in to 2011 class.

We have to come out of 2010 with a talented QB, or we'll be missing a vital ingredient necessary to make good on Kiffin's plan to escort the Vols back to the top of the SEC.

Side Note: The Rhettig offer is a sure sign we lost Scroggins or the staff feels that we're on the outside looking in.

remember people, these are just commitements. this time last year, nu'keese was a uf commit and janzen jackson was a lsu commit.

i would love for these guys to commit to ut from the get go, but it's where they sign their LOI that i'm more worried about. scroggins could very well commit to usc the 25th, but come national signing day, he could be a vol. we've already seen that scenario played out with this staff, who's to say it can't or won't happen again.

me too, but to my understanding, its a rareity that QBs do such a thing.

If it were the other way around it would make more sense. You don't create more space between you and your family if you are reconsidering, you create less.

I think if he is a silent, then they want him to hold out the announcement just in case Scroggins has a change of heart. They don't want to show Scroggins they are jumping ship on him.

((Also-As comfortable as Scroggins has been with the Vols, he does have one concern.

“Just basically all the hoopla that’s going on — all the violations and stuff,” Scroggins said on Monday.))

This sounds like him giving himself an excuse to not commit to UT. What high school junior really cares about secondary violations? Not looking good fellas

Thats pretty funny considering USC is borderline on the death penalty and have has some major violations recently but our hoopla and minors are too much for him eh? He doesnt want to be here thats pretty clear from that statement.

I don't think that us offering Rettig means that we have lost out on Scroggins. I think that since we think Rettig will commit a lot sooner than Scroggins that we can do more recruiting offensive players sooner. I still hope for the prospect of getting both Scroggins and Rettig as our two.

I still have no clue whatever when it comes to Scroggins. Anytime USC is in the picture, I have to wonder.

Scroggins and Rettig have spent a lot of time together recently...at camps and stuff. Maybe Scroggins appreciation for UT will rub off on Rettig. I really don't see us landing JS now, but we just can't lose CR to Boston College.

If this happens, alot of ppl will be shocked. I think the only reason we did offer Rettig is because he was about to commit. But, I do think it signals where we stand in the Scroggins race.

Good point. Some want to compare this to Nukeese Richardson last year, but distance was never a big issue with Nuke. He chose UT on signing day over Florida for other reasons. If Scroggins commits to UT, I will not rest easy until his name is on the dotted line.

im not disagreeing with you, but it seems to me that it signals a bit of worry. its safe to say that JS is in favor of USC. it may not come to finish that way, but all fingers are pointing in that direction currently. CR nearly committed to BC yesterday. i think we pulled the trigger on CR sooner than expected due to that. so all this implies that the coaches arent sure yet as to JS fate, and they were worried they might lose out on CR too.

i would like to see a 2 QB class, but i will be very content to just get ONE of those two for 2010, and hopefully land a juco or a unknown QB, and then for 2011, snare an elite QB. by then recruits will have an idea of the capabilities of UTs new offense.

It's not just distance. It just really is a rarity for QB's to flip-flop, because when everyone gets their ducks in a row then the recruiting slows down or stops at that position. Other skill position players may get scared off when 1-2 other players at his position sign or commit. Changeover in staff is about the only thing I can really think of where QB's may change commitments.

heres a nasty scenario...

what if JS does commit to UT. its expected, or at least hoped for, of him to draw some hot recruits to our program. now fast forward to NSD, and he decommits. what happens to all the recruits that followed in his steps?

Rettig appears rational and is heading for the best opportunity in which he's confident he can play. If he is the next Jay Cutler, and he's our guy, in due time he'll make us forget about all the other QB names we've discussed.

If Scroggins was processing the decision as rationally as Rettig appears to be, we'd be done and Scroggins would be a Vol.

I dont think Scroggins is 100% sure where he is going either....I cant wait till july 25. We will know how this should shake out by then.

Yeah, it should be that way, but family and pressure is playing the bigger role here.

The best part about Scroggins taking his time with his decision (if he hasn't made it yet) is that it reduces the odds of this happening. After he commits the other schools he's interested in will move on. UF would probably still be available if they really were trying to sign a pro-style QB, because I don't think any other ones believe CUM's BS as Jesse has.

This still has USC written all over it, imo, and it's hard to blame him for that choice. However, for a kid with his potential, while I understand and appreciate LWS' logic that very few make it to the NFL, it seems like something he should pursue.

If he believes he can't make it to the NFL, but wants a great education to pursue some other profession, USC is a solid option.

In the video when he talks about USC he lights up. It is pretty clear they are his choice. He also talks about playing with Bailey who hasn't even seen UT. Talks about his Dad being such a huge part of his life. All is understandable. Best of luck to him. But he is staying home as bad as I hate to say that.....

he needs to stop waiting. for gods sake, he knows what he wants, he probably is just coupled with the actual choice of making such a huge decision. he needs to spit it out sooner than july 25, and let himself, and everyone else, move on with recruiting (and in some of our cases, life, as weve spent so much time on this thread ha)

I personally am tired of this prima donna "I'm gonna wait and put 3 hats on the table on ESPN and pick one" crap....Just choose and be over with it and either help bring some top receivers and O-linemen with you or move on and let us go after someone else...Just getting old. It also delays the other school he doesn't choose from going after another QB.
