No, Eric. No. That's not true. Spread guys are turned into Pro Style players in the NFL all the time and we are talking often about guys that have operated in the spread for at least all of HS and all of college. It's about their skill set, not what offense they are familiar with. A pro style offense is a plus, but never a requirement.

We aren't taking a serious look at Newton for nothing. This is a kid that has prototypical size for operating in a pro style offense.

Having the prototypical skill set to do something and actually being able to do it is another thing. I have met plenty of tall people that try to play basketball that aren't that good.

It's WAY different taking snaps from center than it is from the shotgun. Ask another athlete that went from the spread to under center and hasn't done that well. His name is Vince Young.

For every Vince Young, there is a Drew Brees. Also you don't mention that Matt Leinart has struggled even more than Young and he played in a pro-style system.

Game, check, match.

Yet another completely irrelevant point. You have a lot of them tonight. The skill set is the only way to determine whether a guy can actually move from a spread offense to a pro style. That's what the coaches look at. Come on, Eric. You are reaching to make a point that everyone but you seems to see is incorrect.

I think they will once they see what talent he has. He tremendous athleticism. We need someone after Crompton, he is the best shot we got imo.

You just thought the laptop incident was huge. I am sure he can repeat the theft that took place at camp this summer - Just a joke

The difference is that you have actually seen them play basketball.

Don't you have a backyard game to go scout?? :p

BTW, it's not irrelevant at all. It's just amazing to me that people believe he can play QB now based on what?? Film?? His film is from 2006 and he hasn't done ANYTHING to prove he can play in a pro-style offense. In fact, I would venture to say that he ends up at Miss St., where Dan Mullen can use him.

That's exactly my point. How many on here have seen him operate from under center and do it well or play in a pro-style offense?? People are going gaga over nothing really. He hasn't proven anything of the sort.

That maybe true, but I think that the coaching staff wants to have 2 HS QB's if they are going to take two. There's no reason to take someone that may not help and waste two years trying to develop them.

I agree, but that applies to HS QBs to, assuming you don't get who you want, and you just take what is left.

So then, whose opinion should I go with . . . coaches that are recruiting him and think his skills would transfer to a pro style offense or yours?

He's down the list of QB's that we want to take from what I know. If he wasn't and they believed all that you say and other's do, they would have allowed him to commit by now and not waited to see how he performed on the field this fall.

No.

The coaches should make sure they pick the best players according to Rivals, and Scout.

They have rankings too.

You seem to have concocted in your mind that I think Cameron Newton is the best thing since sliced bread. I'm not saying that. I'm just saying that to dismiss his ability based solely on the fact that you've never seen him under center is wrong.

Tell me what you have seen out Cam that brings to your attention anything that resembles a PS QB??

He stands tall in the pocket, has a good, solid delivery and looks first to pass before run. He has the arm to make all the throws, is accurate, and has the feet to move around in the pocket and avoid the rush.
