Alabama is the highest-profile school to date to recruit Gentry. It was a normal day. Wake up, have my breakfast, go to school, and all of a sudden I have an offer from Alabama, Gentry said. Makes your head spin a little bit. Saban, college footballs most recognizable and successful coach, offered Gentry over a 20-minute phone conversation.
if im this kid i say thanks but no thanks. but cant fault an 18 yr old for listening to nicky, hes been pretty successful. hope he sees the light tho.
I kind of like that we're going up against Lane Kiffin now. Even before he bolted Knoxville, I had difficulty rooting for him. He struck me as a used car salesman, and I worried about the type of player that would commit to him. His entire schtick seemed gimmicky --- "come to UT because we have fun and there are chicks here!" I understand that you have to recruit top players to win in college football, and high school seniors aren't the most mature group, but still strikes me that you get the wrong type of kids that way.
I much prefer the Butch Jones recruitment style. Kids seem to be committing here now because they care about their future, their education, building solid relationships, finding strong role models, and UT's tradition and legacy. It doesn't automatically guarantee success, but it's a formula that, IMO, likely leads to greater stability and a team with better leadership.
According to 247, Kiffin is the lead recruiter for Gentry. That seems to set up a great contrast for us. I'll give Kiffin credit for being good at developing QBs, but if you're serious about becoming a better, stronger person, I think you pick Butch Jones over Lane Kiffin in a heartbeat. I'm hoping recruits see that, as well.
Bama lure gets them drafted but it's obvious that they aren't guys to brag about given their... Productivity(?)

Just have to show the kid how many QB's Alabama has ran off over the last 7-8 years.
