In all honestly, does anybody on here seriously believe Bruce Pearl will coach at Tennessee again? I've seen a million threads about him and I think everybody is going overboard over this. In my opinion, I don't think he's ever going to coach at Tennessee again. He's already served his time here. Considering he's been in trouble with the NCAA, I just don't see Tennessee taking a chance of the NCAA being on our backs again if we did hire him back. Do I see a coaching change in the future if we don't see improvement this year or the next? Yes, but I don't think it'll be Bruce Pearl. So the question is, why is everyone obsessing with Bruce Pearl on here? Can they not accept reality anymore? I just don't get it...

The short answer: No. No, they can't.

And, he's not getting hired by any of those teams. This is going to be really fun to revisit when he gets his next job.

I guarantee you that he will be the number one coaching candidate for any job. After the Miami fiasco, no school will be afraid to hire him and rightfully so.

The original infraction was nowhere near severe enough that it would've forced UT to fire him had he been honest with the NCAA from the beginning.

I usually would defer to your expertise since you sound like you know what you're talking about. But historically, the punishments enforced by the NCAA have been applied so inconsistently that its impossible to state with any certainty that "the original infraction was nowhere near severe enough..."

I agree that common sense would tell you that a BBQ alone would not warrant pressure from the NCAA to fire Pearl. But since when does the NCAA operate with any common sense?

Take a look at the poll on this thread. Over three quarters would take him back as coach. Atheletics is a business and the year before he left the atheletic department gave the school a ten million dollar check for the general fund. The last three years the athletic dept has been funded by the school.
In the history of our basketball program we have basically always been second violin to Kentucky and never beating a # 1 team lt alone being ranked #1 ourselves for the first time. We beat 3 #1 teams in Pearl's tenure and were 3-1 against Florida in their back to back championship seasons. We had two #2 seeds in the tourney, three sweet sixteens, onelite eight, and went every year Pearl was here. Now do you see why we want him back.

Amen brother

If that was the case someone would've already hired him. They would've challenged the NCAA on the show cause and had it reduced, yet his name has not been linked to one college job.

Wanna bet? I bet you were high on Petrino too.

Anytime this dude disagrees with me, I know I'm on the right track.

It's a secondary violation. You are reaching to a ridiculous extent here.

"We better hire Petrino because OMG, what if our big scary rivals do and he beats us?" Literally the exact same discussion. People here never learn.

You're confusing what the post you quoted says. He isn't saying do people really want him back, or would they take him...he's saying do they not understand that he isn't coming back. There's a difference.

What it says is would you be willing to take Pearl back next year if Martin is fired. And the answer is overwhwlmingly yes.

And what VFJ is saying is, "Do people not realize it's a totally pointless discussion, considering that we would hire Derek Dooley as our basketball coach before we hired Pearl?" To which (as Downtown said) the answer is that no, some people are just that stupid.

So you're saying it isn't much of a deterrent? Meaning that if he were going to be hired, it would have happened already?

No but with it expiring in August I don't see it as much of a deterrent for schools such as USCjr, UGA or a Vandy.

The idea floating around here that any school hiring Pearl would have the NCAA up their azz or Slive interfering is asinine.

They're already looking to replace Frank Martin? When did that come out?

Why? He's made it clear he wanted to stay away for his three years. Plus, the Miami deal just happened. I changed my tune on his prospects as soon as Miami got that handout.

We're not praising Dickey on his basketball accomplishments. But if he was AD at the time of Bruce's little itty bitty mishap, he wouldn't have let Slive and the NCAA butch slap us in front of the nation.

I disagree, because Dickey proved repeatedly he didn't give 2 craps about basketball.

If we're talking a scenario like this in football, yeah I agree, probably would have never seen the light of day because he'd probably be part of the cover up. But basketball? He wouldn't have done jack squat.

His job wasn't at stake until he lied.

Frank Haith lied about buying a player at Miami - a crime for which the ncaa has usually imposed the dreaded Death Penalty. Bruce told a little white lie, to which he subsequently confessed, about a mere cookout. Frank Haith has never confessed to either the crime or the cover-up. He's still coaching. Bruce is not. What's wrong with this picture?
