Would you be for Bruce Pearl's return if Martin is fired after next year?

His mea culpa makes him more of a man than Frank Haith, John Calipari and their ilk. And they're still coaching. If Pearl's out of coaching (at least temporarily), they should be too.

He fessed up after getting caught. They never got caught. It doesn't make him any more of a man; it means he was trying to cover his ass so his fans would still defend him. Apparently, it worked.

If they were actually caught, of course they'd admit it, because they'd immediately play the "humbled, meek, forgive me" card which would work like a charm. And you'd say the same thing about them, that they were just trying to get back into people's good graces.

The only reason it works with Pearl is because he was the coach of your team.

They also probably wouldn't commit basically the exact same violation four days after apologizing for it.

Wish we had a coach of our team now as we have been without one for 2 1/2 years.

I remember the halcyon days of Bernie and Ernie under the leadership of Ray Mears. As good as he was, however, even the beloved Coach Mears was never able to take UT to the heights achieved under the leadership of Bruce Pearl, even with Bernie and Ernie in his starting lineup. Just imagine what Pearl could have done with those two on his roster! Because of what he did for UT basketball and because of the fact that he’s a decent man deserving of forgiveness for what was a relatively minor faux pas, I’m willing to give Coach Pearl the benefit of the doubt and would forgive him anything short of really egregious crimes such as capital murder, spamming, or consorting with politicians. I think anyone who loves Vol basketball owes Bruce Pearl the consideration of a second chance should that be what he desires.

I agree, Ed. I personally don't have another hundred years to wait on another coach as good as him.

Remember though that for most of Mears' tenure, the tournament was only 16 teams. It only went to 32 his last couple of years here. Had the tourney been 64 teams then, likely almost every team he had would have been in the tournament.

The one year he got there with King and Grunfeld (77 I believe) when we really should have made some noise, King injured his thumb and couldn't play.

And in Mears' time, that Elite Eight team wouldn't have been in the tourney at all.

So back then Pearl's teams would have only made twice as many trips to the dance as Mears teams although Pearl was only here six years and Mears fifteen years here.

They probably would have made it once. Only one team from each conference was selected, although I'm not exactly sure what the criteria used to select that team was.

We have had two #2 seeds in the dance when Pearl was here. You don't think a #2 seed was good enough to make the Tourney back them? I was'nt aware they only picked four teams.

I think we would have made it at least twice under Pearl in the old format. But we all know that first #2 seed we got was crazy overseeded. We were a #4 seed.

I believe it was always the conference champion when it was a 16 team tourney. That is why UK went so many times. In the case of a tie, the tournament committee picked which team they wanted, usually the higher ranked team.

Did you even read where he said only one team from each conference? I ask because you quoted it but seem unable to comprehend what it means.

He does that. I have asked him before if he has selective reading, oddly enough he didn't answer.

I was being sarcastic. If you get a number 2 seed in the NCAA tourney the only way you don't go is if the number of entrants is cut down. You haters selective reading says that a team in the top eight in the country is not worthy only because Pearl coached them.

^ I think he still doesn't get it. That's amazing.

Here's the bottom line, Bruce Pearl is the best basketball coach that has ever coached the Men's team at UT. He is Tennessee Basketball! He made Tennessee Basketball relevant.

Yes, he got sloppy and made a few minor mistakes. He lost a lot of credibility when he lied to the AD and the NCAA about the violations. But, that doesn't mean once his three years are up he doesn't deserve another chance at UT.

IMHO, if Martin is let go there is but one and only one man for the job at UT, and its Bruce Pearl.

Bruce Pearl is Tennessee Basketball!

If this isn't sarcasm....

This is beyond idiocy.

If you think the fact is that Bruce Pearl is Tennessee Basketball, then you need to be institutionalized.

Really? Is that a professional opinion or just that of a slow witted hater? I'm guessing the latter.

Bruce Pearl is the only coach that UT has ever had that had the support of the majority of the fan base. If you doubt that go look at the attendance figures at TBA during his tenure. He is the only coach that UT has ever had that could fill up TBA night after night. No one else even comes close. Thus, BP is Tennessee Basketball!

I'm guessing your 15 and the only 3 coaches you know anything about are buzz, Pearl and Martin.

Do some research, there was a place before TBA, and there was a guy who was responsible for TBA being built.
