Breaker, how would you rank the DB's in this class? I think it is the strength if the class
The whole back seven of the defense is the strength if this class. I'll say this, I wouldn't be surprised if a freshman started opposite Sutton next year. There's nothing to stop one from what I see. And Gaulden just might be that guy.
It was either Fortenberry or Hubbs that said recently they think Gaulden will likely start day 1 at nickel.
I think Payne will be a great lockdown corner but I dont see him playing nickel. That position requires a special type of athlete.
We've got walk-one who can't tackle well there. What type of athlete does lining up a slot WR and covering him take? He actually a very good fit there with his skill set.
Relax I love Payne also and think he will see ample playing time at corner just not nickel. Payne and Sutton is a nasty combo at corner.
What's the logic behind that? He's quicker and smaller than Gaulden. Payne is also more suspectible to the jump ball. Why put him outside when he can mirror the smaller quicker slot WRs. Payne also tackles well so he would be a good blitzer as well.
That's why I assumed he would play nickel. I think Gaulden can play well at any of the secondary positions
I really like the thought of having Kelly and McDowell at safety, Sutton and Gaulden at corner, and Payne at nickel. With Foreman, Swafford, Johnson, and Mosley providing depth, I think we will have one of the best secondaries in the country in a couple of years
I thought the stadium was electrifying, giving our defense tons of momentum on key situations and our offense found a comfort level to drive the ball. The players fed off the crowd and my ears are still ringing. I saw a glimpse of the future dominance last night.
