Starting the negotiations at that price is pretty good. I fully expect him to get 6/year though. It might be with us or elsewhere (college, NFL)....

So we're gonna make Gruden the highest paid coach in the country?

Call me skeptical...

I've heard it's in Saban's contract that UA is required to put him level with or above any coach in the SEC. So technically, he wouldn't be the highest paid for very long.

A coach that has a winning record in the NFL w/ a Super Bowl ring is worth more than 5.25 million a year.

Holy sh!t man, I'm hope you don't negotiate...anything...for a living.

IF that's true, that's a commendable offer.

Since people are throwing names around

What do y'all think of Al Golden at Miami?

He did a really good job turning Temple around & has done pretty well this year with a Miami team that is low on scholarship players & very young. With the sanctions Miami has coming he may listen.

Golden was actually the guy I wanted us to hire when Kiffin left. I wouldn't mind us considering him.

That would be top ten NFL money and would likely be top 5 in college.

I just looked up top paid college football coaches & every article had something different. If that deal is true it would make him top 3 in highest paid coaches in CFB.

To answer OCI, I think 80% of this site is decidedly against Dooley, regardless of his close to the season. I have lost most of my faith... But a win Saturday, and wins the rest of the way will keep me in his corner. A loss anywhere along the way, and I say it is time for a change. The evidence is overwhelmingly negative

This. Win out and start getting some verbals from the Elite prospects we are in on.

Come on JMO, you know that is just a basis for negotiations in any undertaking. One side goes low the other goes high.

You're right, I could see that asa base. Add in bonus pay that could be something like this:

SEC Title - $250,000
BCS Game - $500,000
National Title - $750,000-$1,000,000

Just an example, but that could get him close to $6.0 mill.

no NCAA sanctions so not sure about leaving a mess

he left places that have little natural bases for recruiting and are very difficult to recruit to - which is why it is so impressive that he won at those spots and why the next person had such a hard time keeping that up

people leave when better jobs come along in every profession on earth - get over it

so i guess my final word if i were the AD would be good to have you on board Mr. Petrino and goodbye barrythesnout

No ncaa sanctions, no. But you can't deny the fact that he has left every single team hes coached high and dry at the worst possible time. If you think he wouldn't do the same to us, youre either blind or stupid or both. And I don't want that type of controversy or label associated with the University of Tennessee. We had a scum bag for a coach once. His last name was Kiffin. Remember what happened with him? I do. It sucked. This would be Kiffin 2.0. But have fun believing what you want, guy.
