Money often becomes a factor in hiring a new coach. Tom Jurich (UL AD) said a couple weeks ago that he would match "any salary from any college" to keep Strong. I don't know the amout of his buyout, just that he has six more years at $2M+. Petrino would come with no buyout.

Saying it is the easy part.

if petrino is hired im not sure how recruiting would be he always was mediocre as hell at ark but that could be just ark and i know ive seen UT has the highest recruiting budget in the sec so maybe with that he does better

I think I've made my feelings on Petrino quite clear. If UT fans want to win (and not break NCAA rules), then hire Petrino.

im 100% with you on this one - sometimes people make things harder than they need to be

he is out there - would LOVE to have this level of job - we would LOVE to win - let's make this happen

Golden is one I didnt think about - wouldnt be upset with him but again - when you have a big boy out there that is desperate, go get him - reminds me of when KY went and got Calipari out of the blue - then after it happened there was a collective "huh, well that seemed to make a lot of sense"

And Petrino would be willing to sign any contract you put in front of him just to land a big time job again.

Exactly. He took Louisville to a BCS Bowl (and won) and took Arkansas to a BCS Bowl. He's 75-26 in 8 years as a head coach. He's proven he can win in the SEC (Arkansas is one of the toughest places to recruit). Also, his record against USCe (3-1), LSU (2-2), UGA (1-1), MSU (3-1), and TXAM (3-0) is impressive.

I've said it before, so this is the last time I'll mention it. If they hire that man I will never support the university again until he's either fired our bolts for a new job. People forget the kind of mess hes left behind at every stop. You are what you are. He is a scum bag.

Being a Falcons fan doesn't have anything to do with that does it:)

no NCAA sanctions so not sure about leaving a mess

he left places that have little natural bases for recruiting and are very difficult to recruit to - which is why it is so impressive that he won at those spots and why the next person had such a hard time keeping that up

people leave when better jobs come along in every profession on earth - get over it

so i guess my final word if i were the AD would be good to have you on board Mr. Petrino and goodbye barrythesnout

Did he really leave Louisville in a mess? IJS

Just my opinion, Petrino will be named an SEC coach not later than December and AU may well be that school.

I understand. An 8-4 regular season would definitely be an improvement. It almost seems like the VN Witch Trials with Dooley.

i think that would certainly change the conversation - at this point i just dont think many people see it as very likely

at start of the year i thought us beating 1 of FLA, GA, Mstate, Bama, USCjr was highly likely

now it is coming down to beating SC on the road - that doesnt seem near as likely

I don't like Clay Travis at all but he makes a pretty good case for Gruden to UT in this article...

Is Jon Gruden UT's Nick Saban? : Outkick The Coverage

This picture cracks me up.

Look at the bigger picture: Do you think Dooley is ever better than 8-4 at UT? Because I don't see it. Recruiting isn't good enough, coaching damn sure isn't.

There's just no future with him.

I'm not saying I disagree, but it would put VN in a predicament if we finished 8-4 and somehow won a bowl game against a decent opponent.
