Dooley will not be the coach next season.

Yea, 9-4 ain't happening hoss

And if it does, and we fire Dooley anyways...... bad news all around. Absolutely no one will want this job. Not worth the risk, hence Dooley is not fired while the opportunity for 9-4 is still on the table. When the opportunity for 7-6 at best is on the table, then it's probably a done deal.

Tressel isn't an option.

Tressel is a very real option, if you can handle him missing the first 5 games after he is hired. I'm not saying UT will hire the man, but he can coach. Read the article at SI.com that explains what the NCAA COI did that gave his punishment no teeth.

5 games?

His show cause is 5 YEARS.

Tressel can not coach for a long time...And no I would take Petrino over him.

Jim Tressel could get hired after*flimsy NCAA show-cause penalty - Andy Staples - SI.com

You folks who say Tressel can't coach for a long time need to read and process this article. Not necessarily saying he's my first choice, but the man can coach!:lolabove:

This is absurd. This job is not that risky. If you win a national championship we will not fire you 2 seasons later. Lets be honest, we are not having unrealistic expectations. Demanding better than 4-16 in the conference does not make this a risky job.

soon to be 4-17 in conference.

Vandy has more SEC wins over the same period.

I'll reiterate - expectations are not unrealistic.

Decision has been made. This should be no surprise.

No surprise, but if that is really the case why allow him to finish this season? Pay him the buyout let him get some needed R&R to recover from his hip surgery and allow the search to begin post haste.

Is there any value at all in letting Dooley finish the season?

Obviously you have not researched Romney's background and just accept the liberal media's propaganda you see each night. If you had you would have learned that Romney did not accept a salary while serving as Massachusetts and personally paid all his own government travel expenses. Ha, can you imagine Michelle's outrage if she and her family, friends, 23 personal servants and the rest of her entourage weren't allowed to travel the world every two weeks on "YOUR DIME". Futhermore, Romney did not accept a salary while serving as CEO of the 2002 Olympics and he's donated millions to charity. Bidden $300 last year and your hero Obama about 1%. So please read and learn the truth before casting your vote. Your country' fate is in the balance.

This is not a political site and is the wrong place to have a pol sci debate. We have more important problems with our vols here!

May not be official till after the season is over.

Btw the majority of you all can smd about the whole Shannon deal.

So what is the value of waiting until the end of the season?

Why not announce now, assign an interim coach and start the search?

We fire Dooley now and it becomes the highest-risk job in college football. You have 2.5 years to right the ship and put a team on the field that can beat the best teams in the country. By midway through your 3rd year if you haven't done so you're fired.

Yeah any coach would respectfully decline. Dooley would have declined if they had told him that.

When our trio of defenders decided to double cover one of the three Bama receivers split out to the right....

I evaluated Dools right then.

I evaluated him when he failed to address our kicking problems after not one or two but three seasons. This has been killing us for three years. However Dooley has made no attempt to recruit a replacement. Instead, he gives the drunk kid on the couch a scholarship. Now that should be enough to evaluate Dooley.

Oh boo hoo poor Romney. He doesn't give a crap about you besides your vote just like the other guy. Keep that stuff out of the football forum please.

Uhhh...negative. That would be good news all around.

Wait, so if we hired him this week, could we count the next 5 games as his penalty?

There is some merit in your thinking. Although, Dooley has not helped himself at all. Do you honestly think his seat would be as hot if he had beaten Miss State?

Or put a $5million buy out into the contract...

Dooley has proven that he is a mental midget. His teams really haven't progressed since 2010. He is the worst gameday coach I've ever seen. If he beat 2 of our good sec foes, I'd give him the 4th year, but he hasn't by nowand shown he never will.

No I don't. And we should have beaten Mississippi State. We are a better team. I am not calling for Dooley's head but I don't deny these things.

Nope, and it won't be as hot if we beat USCe Saturday either. Regardless of what Zas is saying, it's not set in stone just yet. A win Saturday will cool things off significantly. A loss in any of the last for games will also heat things up again.

That game changed a lot of peoples thinking. We had 2 weeks to prepare for that game and we come out like the keystone cops in the 1st half. Basically, sealing our fate in the 2nd.

People demand greatness here, right now thats not a possibility. The natives are restless, and will not be satisfied until Dooley is out of Knoxville.
He has put down a pretty good foundation that another coach can build upon. I will always respect him for that.
