Dooley will not be the coach next season.

So the offense could have been better, even though it produced more than enough points to win 3 of the 4 losses we've had, but you want to piss and moan about it?

Correct. The defense is a huge issue. What is the offensive identity of UT? When crunch time comes what does UT fall back on? To this point it has been nothing.

The giving here a job part? No, I know all about it. The giving her $$ part? Isn't that what guys do when they "think" they care about someone? It was a mistake. The man has paid for it. His wife is working through it with him. Seems she would know a little bit about the situation.

So you are ok with your daughter, your wife, or your mother being hired by someone that will take advantage of them because they are in power? Do you really want someone like that running the football team that your son is attending. Oh and then there is the fact that he lied to the University about it. What a wonderful person to be the face of your university. If you think that scumbag is remorseful in anyway, then I can't help you. But but it's all about winning right? No sir, no it's not.

Complaints about the offense and or OC.

I would say why did it take 3 years to learn to run the ball?

Is it the QB or the OC calling plays that allows our QB to keep chucking the deep ball on 3rd and 1or2?
If it is the QB, why is he still in the game?

Why as an OC do you tell everyone your focus of the next game is get the ball to your playmaker CP, and then he touches it less?

Why is ZR not more of a focus in this offense? He has shown all year he could make plays when thrown in his direction.

TE's in the SEC are a tool that can get 1st downs easily. Why is it we only look to ours when he is running 30 yard seam routes?

Can our QB check into a different play or not?

Just a few questions/complaints I would have.

never hated clay Travis for that. I hate clay Travis because he's a pandering douche bag that contributes to the degradation of journalism with every breath he takes.

He's not a journalist. He is a talk show host...opinion giver, rabble rouser...

I have no opinion of him, but just thought I would clear that up for you.

:hi:

Not the best value, if by value you mean max quality for min cost. Just the cheapest.

Didn't his pro players hate him, along with everything else?

Best value as in Wins Vs salary. I get people don't like the man. Those who judge would never make a mistake I suppose. When a person does, all they can do is pay the price and move on. I get alot of fans would not want him hired here. I would not mind it. It's my opinion.

I think there is an unspoken rule that most (insert Petrino as a possible exception here) coaches follow, and that they would not officially talk until Dooley was notified that he wouldn't be retained. Just a guess.

What about contacting potential candidates to check for interest? Say just a text that says "Hey, if this job was available, would you be interested?"

Of coaches we have a reasonable shot at Petrino is the only one I am confident would win in the sec

Also only one I think would have us relevant in 2013

I'll believe it on a decision on Dooley when I read or see it in print. IF we don't get a top notch coach that can get the University back to respectability in 2 years, it's not worthwhile. By worthwile, I mean at least wins. That's a start. I know the 90's were some of the best years the Vols had averaging 10 wins per season. Respectability starts with 8 wins and goes up from there.

The man had an affair. Millions of men do it every year. He got caught and has paid the price. Did he murder someone? Kidnap a child? I get it is wrong. I get that some like to hang a person for making a mistake. I would also bet alot of the ones saying he is scum would give one of our coaches a pass in a heartbeat if he were married and cheated on his wife. Is he a risk? Maybe he is. I watched the presser he did with ESPN in August and IMO, the man deserves another chance. Some team WILL hire him and they WILL win. Hart could hire Petrino and protect UT at the same time.

Actually what I am going to say about it most likely won't be that popular but oh well...I do believe Petrino deserves another chance and I honestly think he will be balls to the wall to whatever program hires him...I believe her would really go all in for that program and remain for a long time...Yes he has some bad moments but hell I know a lot of people that have done as much or worse in their days...A 2nd chance might pay off big time...But who will reap those benefits?...Or take that chance?

Dooley :gun: Shannon deal
Shannon (or at least promoting Lance Thompson to DC to maintain continuity...plus he had more credentials for an SEC DC job) would've likely saved Dooley's job this year. If he torpedo'ed Shannon's hiring, then he did the same with his own job.

I have a hard time understanding why a majority of posters here think hiring jon gruden is a good idea. He is a really good coach and tv personality but Tennessee needs someone who is winning right now in major college football. Gruden did win a superbowl. What some fail to realize is he won it with tony dungys team. Remember who he beat in that game? Ill give you a minute ... did you get it right? It was the raiders. He beat them pretty good too. Crazy thing is that the raiders were his team just the year before! Amazing I know. Makes you think doesn't it. Seriously though. All jokes aside, we need a chip kelly( who in my opinion would at least listen. It has to be intriguing to him to coach in the sec and against the defenses our conference has) or chris Peterson. What he has done at boise is very impressive. Charlie strong wouldn't be bad. He's gonna be here next year anyway(the sec) most likely at arky. I could keep going but here's the point. We have lost our winning edge as a program and fanbase. We don't need excitement or flashy sh#t to win. We just need a guy who only knows one way to play the game. Destroy your opponent every game and do it the right way. That's what Saban does every week. Gruden is funny ill give you that. But so is Dooley. How's that worked out for us?
so you fault him for winning with a team that Dungy couldnt and then you fault him in the very next sentence for a team that he built making it to the super bowl? did the raiders actually play in the super bowl that year? i dont remember.

I think coaches we have a shot at hinge on what Hart is willing to pay. IF he is willing to pony up 4-5 million, the list gets a whole lot bigger. I think Petrino would win here early. I do think his recruiting would suffer for the 1st year only until recruits saw the product on the field. Once players saw us winning, they would consider the Vols. If anything, we have seen alot of top players do not follow what mommy and daddy want when it comes to picking their college. Who knows how parents would react IF he were hired here. Would alot of them at least speak to him to hear what he has to say? I would imagine they would.

If Petrino was hired and went out and won 10 games the first year a lot of his issues would be forgotten by the hand wringers on here.

Would rather have Tressel than Petrino, if we were going to take someone currently out of work.

+1

That is how I see it as well. Someone is going to hire him and someone is going to win alot of games. I think people deserve another chance when they screw up IF they seem to realize what they have done and own up to it. He did that in the presser I saw. The man seemed genuine to me and IMO, alot of recruits parents would see the same thing.

I'm wondering why any AD, NFL GM, OR any rational person would hire Bobby Petrino...does anyone know the history?

you are right. winning and developing talent trumps past indiscretions on the recruiting trail. still not sure i would want to gamble on him.
