'12 TX LB Dalton Santos (Texas Commit)

Post from someone on VQ, thought it was worth sharing...TIFWIW

I have a friend who coaches in Tyler, TX and has some connections to the coaching staff at Van. First, Santos is an ILB all the way. Sunseri told him that in their meeting. Second, the Texas visit is Santos' parents doing. If he comes to UT, they will probably follow like Bray's parents did. So, his parents want him to check out UT Jr. to try and get him to stay closer to home. Dalton loves the Vols. He wears UT gear to school every day and is texting with Otha and Danny O all day. As recently as yesterday he was talking to his coaches about Knoxville and getting in the strength program and summer workouts. He is not a lock to Texas, but it sounds like this may come down to a family decision, one that may be against what Dalton actually wants to do.

Mack would have retired if Colt hadn't gotten hurt in the national title game. Brown would have gone out a winner

This is typical of utx fans and why they are known to be so arrogant. They always forget about how they barely beat OU that yr and Bradford was hurt coming into the game and was taken out by a hit. OU was up at that pt 6-0, and utx only won 16-13. So utx probaly wouldn't even be in the NCG if Bradford were healthy. They love to leave out the fact they benefited from the same situation just to have a chance. Pathetic.

I was at the game so no proof link...

Btw - the in game atmosphere at the RR Shootout has nothing on Neyland when the band starts to set up the T let alone once the ball is kicked off vs one of our most disliked rivals.

No link...experienced both many times...

Parents want him to stay in-state, but ultimately the decision is Dalton's. He grew up loving Texas, but he's grown to love Tennessee.

With all due respect sir,it doesn't seem like the parents are letting it be Dalton's decision..This is what is frustrating me so much.:ermm:

You have to understand Santos' parents POV. You'd want your kid to stay in state, but they have to let him decide of course. If dalton chooses UT, then they will grow to love us just like Dalton.

Let's not just assume he will be "The Man" here. That's unfair to put that type of expectation on him. AJ Johnson is "The Man" at UT for at least 2 more years.

The man in the sense we've been after him hard for quiet a few months... not just the last 2 weeks before NSD.

He's at the top of our big board, not in the "options" category like Texas.

A&M has a bigger fan base, more $, better academics, more resources......BUT I am just talking about football performance. TCU beat Big 10 Champ Wiscy in the Rose Bowl to cap off an undefeated & #3 ranked season. A&M hasn't fielded a team in decades that could have hung with that Wisconsin team. To say TCU wouldn't have "those years" in a BCS conference after thumping the Big 10 champ is ponderous to say the least.

Back to Santos.......are the rumors true that you guys are already trying to back-fill his spot? Do you think kids will be insulted that Tennessee wasn't in love with them all along (like people here are saying Santos should feel about Texas)?

Wisconsin would have been a 8-4 team at best in another bcs conference. The big 10 has been overrated for the longest time now. I think the big 10 bowl record proves that. aTm would beat TCU 7 out of 10 times.

His position is not that much of a need. The other lb on our board is going to be an outside linebacker. Its really not a huge loss depth wise. So no we arent trying to get a back up for when he goes to Texas.

Ok..well..i'll take your word for it b/c you seem to be closer to the situaition than any of the rest of us..VN has just really grown to love this guy and he feels like one of us.

I'm not saying he's going to end up here, but we have a much better shot than most people initially thought(myself included). Whether he ends up here or Texas, it will be his choice, not his parents.
