'12 TX LB Dalton Santos (Texas Commit)

I'm gonna go ahead and tell you, I'm from Austin, Texas grew up there my whole life and I went to high school at Bowie High School and I'm currently a student at Tennessee. Big 12 football doesn't even compare to SEC football in the magnitude of importance, atmosphere, and competition. The only school I could make an argument for the atmosphere would've been TAMU but they're coming here any way. Funny thing too is, I've gone to Texas Longhorns games all my life. Even when the Longhorns are winning, the atmosphere at Darrell K Royal doesn't compare to Neyland. You wouldn't expect the tailgating in Knoxville, TN to be so much better than Austin, TX. The fans in the SEC take college football way more seriously than Big 12 fans. I've seen more from Tennessee in 2 years than I've seen from Texas in 18. I know you keep trying to build up the Big 12, but from someone who's experience both, IT DOES NOT COMPARE.
I've heard gameday in Texas is still really good. We are spoiled as Tennessee fans, though. Unbelievable on all levels. Vol Navy, Vol Walk, running through the T, the view, singing Rocky Top with 100,000+, the history and feeling of knowing where you're witnessing a game, the checkerboard endzones... nobody else compares. My Texas friends told me their gameday experience is a 9, but Tennessee was a 15. They were mesmerized by the whole experience.

I understand that Texas is a great school and place to play football. Being that it is his home state and all I understand the fact that Dalton does want to visit. That being said, he has been a Vol for awhile. We have showed him interest from the very beginning. Not deciding to show up late to the party (ala Texas). I think Dalton is a smart enough person to know that he should be in Knoxville. Him and Danny O'brien are the future of our programs success on defense.

We all know Tejas, well current Tejas, and Jawja are where talented players go to die

Except for that Texas (48) and Georgia (40) both have more players in the NFL than Tennessee (33).

And to AstonRoyal:

I agree that the Big 12 has nothing on the SEC in terms of atmosphere. That being said, the atmosphere at Texas is comparable to that of Tennessee. I too have been to tons of games at both places. When either school is winning, it's hard to match anywhere in the country. When either school is losing, it's a real let down.

BTW, I'm feeling Santos to Tennessee at 60/40 right now. My tendency per these percentages is due to the fact that Texas has extended invites/interest to a couple of new prospects meaning, perhaps, Santos has expressed interest to remain with his initial commitment to the Vols. I could be wrong, though.

The Big 12 vs SEC atmosphere is also watered down when you compare the worst of the two conferences. The worst SEC teams are still in the football-crazed South while the Big 12's location is more spread out, I.e. state of Iowa and state of Kansas.

Um. Are you sure about this? Thought Tennessee was 2nd to Miami with most players to enter the NFL...

there number is the number of players that are on CURRENT ROSTERS. not how many have entered the NFL via draft or practice squads. TENN is only behind Miami in number of 1st round draft picks, and is number one for number of total players who have entered NFL. so yea texas not so much buddy.

Back to Santos.......are the rumors true that you guys are already trying to back-fill his spot? Do you think kids will be insulted that Tennessee wasn't in love with them all along (like people here are saying Santos should feel about Texas)?

Not true. Once sunseri came in he said he wanted another quick olb in this class for the 3-4 we r moving to. We were after a guy before the whole tx offer fiasco.

Not sure where you are getting your info. You may be right because I'm having a hard time finding the numbers throughout the history of the NFL draft. I did come across the following, though.

Miami has the most 1st round picks since 2000 with an ungodly 25. After Miami is Ohio State and Florida State (each with 13), Texas (12), Wisconsin, Tennessee, Penn State, Oklahoma, USC and Georgia (all with 8).
Texas has the most top 10 picks with 7. Miami has 5. Behind Miami is USC and FSU (each with 4), Penn State, Auburn, NC State and Ohio State (all with 3).
Texas has the most top 5 picks with 5 (Vince Young, Cedric Benson, Leonard Davis, Mike Williams and Quentin Jammer). Penn State has 3 (Levi Brown, Courtney Brown, Lavar Arrington) - two of those were from the 2000 draft. Auburn (Carnell Williams and Ronnie Brown - both RB's picked back to back in 2005), USC (Carson Pamer and Reggie Bush), NC State (Mario Williams and Philip Rivers) and Miami (Andre Johnson and Sean Taylor) each have 2.

Go back to the 90s retard. The last half of the 00s have been unkind to UT (the real UT) for obvious reasons,or we would be right up there where we usually are.

We've had less than 3 top 10 picks since 2000? Really? Berry was 5, right? Mayo was like 7, wasn't he? Are those the only 2?
