Arnett to transfer?

Luckily, yo don't drive the discussion....Dave Hart does. Five losses with that schedule and a first round pick at QB doesn't cut the mustard.

I personally agree. 5 losses and I won't be happy. No reason he shouldn't win at least 8 and 9 should be expected to be honest, returning 18 starters, 10 on offense alone. However, I don't see Hart cutting him lose after 3 years. Could happen, but I don't see it.

He's only been at UT for one semester. Surely his dad has been sick longer than that. Why didn't he consider this before he started here?

It is a different day on the Hill, and a monkey (trained or otherwise) should be able to win 8 in the regular season with the Vol's roster.

If I thought MU or MSU had been tampering with DA I would not release him to either of those places. If DA is truly wanting to go home to be with family CMU should be the answer he's looking for.

there is not tampering going on. dArnett has been on his twitter account with kids at MSU and um for the entire school year, but it really picked up the day cBaggett left. (just sayin')

He didnt get into specifics, just some of the fellas making sure things are going ok with him. But the last week or so, there has been some real douchebaggery on the part of some um players and fans. Seriously stupid stuff. The MSU folks have kept it cool. From what I have seen, anyways.

That's dumb to me.

If you're worried a guy that packed his stuff up and went home is going to sway a recruit, you probably aren't doing your job.

I know several coaches do this and they all look like dumbasses in these situations.

No employee/employer in the country is going to do something that could add a negative variable to make his job that much tougher. I could see your point if Dooley handled every situation differently. However, he essentially did the same thing with Bryce Brown and Aaron Douglas.

The effect on recruiting (in either direction is negligible). Lets be honest, Dooley just didn't want to give Arnett everything he wanted. He did it to make an example of him for others on the team that may have "sick parents".

Charlie Baggett to be 100% honest.

Ding, ding. I think we have a winner here. I think most realize this is the real reason. All the Arnett chatter started when Baggett left. I'm sure Dooley knows this too. The only reason Arnett is getting a release at all is probably a PR move since he is using his sick father as the reason, and it would really look bad for UT not to grant a release. The reason he is not being released to play anywhere he wants is probably because his sick father is only an excuse. Not saying this is the case, but I think it's a strong possibility.

1) His brother has been the father figure for most of his life
2) relationship with Father has been improving, and has become very important
3) other family/friend issues back home (saginaw can be an ugly place)
d) cbaggett leaving absolutely did not help things

Someone needs to check his stats for the Arkansas game. dArnett was up until 3am on his twitter, talking with friends back home about some shooting in Saginaw.

OH, and if you followed his recruitment at all, you know that he is reading this thread.

His primary reason for leaving is Baggett's departure. If Baggett his here we are not having this discussion.

Agree. Hubbs even pointed to this being one of the conclusions Dooley had after meeting with Arnett and then going to Michigan to meet with his family. If you are truly wanting to be close to your sick dad then you have Central Michigan to go to. Central Michigan has a good academic program, and it's not like NFL scouts are going to ignore if Arnett is an absolute stud there. So you still have NFL prospects, good academics, and are close to your dad. So why again does he not want to CMU if his dad is on his mind?

I think that's the issue and makes it a little harder to sympathize with DA.

Eh, it didn't work for Arnett here. Let him move on.

Look at the history of transfers from Tennessee. Have any of them ever done much at all after they left here? Onterrio Smith played well at Oregon, that's about it. The guy is shooting himself in the foot. Let him leave and let any kind of bad PR stay gone.

Bobby Bowden be damned!

There are several reasons...national exposure would be first on the list. How many recruits choose CMU over an offer from MSU or UM out of high school?

Again, there is no 100% right answer for Dooley in this situation.

I disagree. I think if Baggett were still here, he would be given his full release. I think he was gone either way, but I think Baggett retiring did tip him even farther towards leaving.

Central MeatChicken it is then.....best of luck in 2012 to the entire Arnett family!

I agree with you 100% on this.

Id like to have him at MSU, but i think CMU is where he will end up, and it will be a good spot for him if he chooses to make it one.

I disagree, but I don't disregard the opinion. May be some truth to it. I don't think he was ever thrilled with Knox.

I really think the fear of a bad PR hit is being blown way out of porportion. I think the only real talk about it is on UT message boards. It will be a thing of the past in a few days, and UT fans will find something else to whine about.

FTR, I think Dooley did the right thing.

I honestly think he got quite a bit of playing time for a true freshman. Guess its more to do with playing for a losing coach and team
