Would be something if the former coach at Xavier went to Cincinnati. Not quite a Rick Pitino going to Louisville, but I imagine the Musketeer die-hards would be livid.Hearing the top two guys for Cincinnati are Jerrod Calhoun and Travis Steele
I assume you misread Schertz (as in Josh, at St. Louis) for Schwartz (as in Michael, former Barnes assistant).Alexander over Schwartz. Casey has been a head coach at 3 programs (Stetson, Lipscomb, Belmont) for 15 seasons and is 303-180. Schwartz still unproven as a head coach in my opinion.
Yes, I assumed it was Michael Schwartz from ECU that assisted Barnes at UT.I assume you misread Schertz (as in Josh, at St. Louis) for Schwartz (as in Michael, former Barnes assistant).
Josh Schertz is 450-128 at three programs (LMU, Indiana St., and St. Louis). He's pretty proven. At least as much as Alexander.
Especially after the run of late DeVoe, Houston, and O'Neill. That run of mediocrity (1 NCAAT appearance and 1st rd exit in 1989) over 14 years killed the program. Jerry Green, for all his faults, had immediate and sustained success.
Can you imagine South Carolina firing Lamont Paris, or Missouri firing Dennis Gates if they had that kind of success?
From everything I can remember, he was run off because he was just a boring guy and in turn he got bitter and by the end it was time for a divorce. I think he deserved another year but that final team he had did have a major dropoff from the start of the season to the end.
I mean if people think Barnes just 'stands there', they need to go back and watch Green. If social media was around then, he'd be a meme with how uninterested he looked on the sidelines, with the folded arms and the blank stares. I don't think I can recall him ever looking like he was yelling.
But it is crazy that the guy was what, 5:00 from making the program's first E8 ever and had a really good shot at our first FF and that ended up being the start of his eventual downfall.
