Arion Carter is Staying at UT

He just argues to argue. I don’t agree with all of your posts, but do like that you can be neutral for each side. I’ve seen you on the players side of this NIL mess, and I’ve seen you on the universities side of this mess.

I’ve rehired quite a few employees once they realized the grass wasn’t greener. One thing I’ve never done is rehire them at a higher rate than they left at. As you said, it’s business. Sometimes your on the good end, and sometimes your left holding the shat end.
Exactly. Since NIL and the portal are still new, you've got to be firm in negotiating.

When the Gibson thing happened or the Nico thing happened, the thought here was "screw them, let them walk" for most folks and for others it was "we can't afford to lose them."

What you know is that you cannot be the soft boss and let guys leverage you nor can you be the ice cold "you left and you're dead to me."

I think you get it that you have to negotiate as man to man: why did you do that? This is why I'm doing this. And work it out.

It's a learning lesson for Carter and he is, IMO, worth having but not if he thinks he has the upper hand or, more importantly, if others see what he did and think we're soft negotiators.

All indications are that Carter has Level 2 to Level 3 Turf Toe injury considering he’s seeking surgery. That’s a partial tear (Level 2) to complete tear (Level 3) of the ligaments at the base of the big toe. After surgery it could take up to 6 months for a full recovery and that’s if he follows doctor’s orders to the letter.
If you’ve ever had a Level 2 or Level 3 Turf Toe injury, they are extremely painful and this kid played through the injury and was still one of the top tacklers in the SEC. I’m sure it slowed him down some so I’d like to see him fully healthy and see what he could do then. I never had surgery for mine from 30 years ago and it still gives me problems every now and then.
All I know is that I’m looking forward to watching a nasty defense this fall and maybe he’ll heal up quick enough to be a part of that and shine.

Mixed on this one... We would have been fine with Campbell, Spillman, Perlotte and Harmon... however I am glad we don't have to play against him next year

I wonder what happened? Did he leave chasing money and had no takers at his asking price? I guess I’m glad he came back, but I don’t believe anything he says about being back home or commitment.

The fact that no one snapped him up should be telling.

I wonder if he declared and some NFL team asked for a medical evaluation or paid for a medical evaluation and he found out he's going to need the surgery and no NFL team would touch him?

I hope he gets fixed for his own sake and his career's sake but I do wonder if he didn't know when he declared for the NFL that it was as bad as it was.

I feel the same way, but Carter maybe the best of the bunch. Can we play 3 LB and only 4 DB’s? Especially in running situations. Another poster mentioned, but can one of these guys play the LEO on 3rd and long? We are still kind of thin on edge rushers.

So we should risk missing out on a player who could help our team so you can feel like a 20 something was adequately punished for their poor decision?
I didn't say that. It's just a personal opinion. I hope they punished him with a little less money. If not, fine, whatever. Glad to have him back. He was one of my favorites last year

I think i saw about 20 posts of him not being a VFL and good riddance… wonder what the sentiment is now.

Go vols
Maybe he discovered the market wasn't as hot as he thought it would be. It's pretty hard to get all gushy about him when he was all but out the door. I hope he produces. I hope he has a hundred tackles. But VFL??? Nah.

Wait. So he hasn’t gotten the surgery yet?

nope, I just think AC will not be a starter. He can tackle but not cover in space.
None of our LBs could. They were always out of position.

As i continue to say. Don’t even consider what you saw last year. Banks was on some dumb dumb last season to the max.

I would much rather have him with us than against us.
