What would Tn's record have this year if they had the 34th best defense ?Everybody acts like Penn st D was abysmal. With all the drama and the team giving up when franklin was canned, they still finished 34 in total defense. That is pretty respectable given the circumstances. This is an excellent hire. He had #1 D in country at OSU and #4 at OK state in 2021. This is a home run.
Reading on his scheme a little bit. Adoption may not be as long as it has for other teams. Knowles runs something similar to what we run already. Difference in use of LB (Leo to jack, maybe?). Shouldn't be that hard of a transition.I had a different preference, but this was the fantasy choice. He will need time before his starters are instinctive within the scheme, but the Cutcliffe connection resonates with a similar mindset. FUNDAMENTALS like proper tackling technique and angles will be 180 improved by the time real football is played.
Single down year. lol. 5 years here. 1 good year. Thanks to talent. He’s operating at 20%. Those metrics get you fired at most jobs. The breakdown of Knowles/his defenses is it always takes a year for it to get properly implemented. Apparently a very complicated/hard to learn scheme, but once learned, is really good.
Which makes one question why we'd go with him considering this fan base couldn't handle a single down year from Banks, but whatever I guess.
Like the hire, but it will likely require patience before elite results are seen.
We beat UGA, Oklahoma, and Vandy with the 34th ranked defense IMOListen, I think I’m known as a negavol, but I can’t believe people are down on this hire. You kidding me? Asking for people like muschamp. Jesus. This guy has fielded natty winning defenses.
He just had a “down” year and fielded the 34th defense with a program falling down around him. You realize that with the 34th defense we’re prob in the playoffs right now?
