Knowles Expected to be DC

From a good friend who's a Penn State fan:

"Franklin stole him from Ohio St made him highest paid DC in college football history. Annnnnnnd our defense was terrible. So I say yall can have him, good riddance..."

I'm hoping he's wrong but most DCs will have great players at OSU and PSU to work with. And of course the players quit on Franklin this year so his tenure there in one season is hard to gage.
Those dumbasses have never experienced a truly "terrible" defense

Now the question is, who will be kept on the defensive staff and who will be replaced? And by whom?

Guarantee we didn't land Knowles without giving him authority to hire his own defensive assistants.
Bet his inclinations about his staff construction was an early discussion and won’t be point of contention if this works out.

So our defense won’t stop anyone on on third and long or stop the run. Gotcha we have to wait for year two for that?
"Push" wasn't meant literally. More to convey the Defense may not be lights out as the players learn to execute the scheme. But that year of learning may be tolerable with what Heup expects year after nextm

I've read this comment that his defenses are complicated , learning curve etc, so help me out. Seems like defense would be fairly easy to grasp because you would be playing based on how the other teams line up. They either run or they pass. We can rush more guys or less, or play zone or man to man, . Not trying to be smart a** but with todays portal jumping, we may not have the same players 2 years in a row. I can't get my mind around the defense needing a year to grasp how to play defense .
I'm not knowledgeable to comment about schemes and complexity. But the narrative his Defense requires a learning curve is common.

A piece people aren't talking about with this guy. He prepared a gameplay against Heupel's offense in the playoffs, this could pay dividends and give CJH some insight on tells and predictability. I know we have revamped the offense since then but I would bet this can be beneficial for the offense as well
Swain mentioned that as well

I'm really not sure they do. I've seen too many defenders trying to throw a shoulder at the ball carrier and knock him over. It looks good if it works but it's not good tacking in nearly all cases. Too many defenders flying straight head on at the RB or receiver when they should break down, give up a few yards and make the stop. Too much flying at the QB on sack attempts and not containing him. Bad angles. And that's for starters.

Edit: keep your eyes on the belt buckle.
Keep your eyes on the belt buckle. I learned that in 7th grade football and basketball. Great instruction then and now.

Pair of Safeties.
Pair of DTackles
1RB...probably like Star Thomas unless Hiter has changed his mind now at Michigan (please let it be so)

Thats really all we need from the portal. If Lewis stays we dont even really need a RB with Bishop, Morris, Baker. I think we probably grab a big blocking TE similar to Kitselman. All 3TEs we have are better receivers than blockers. JVD did lay some people on their backs this year in limited playing time. He LIKES to hit. Not sure that Davis or Brahme like the contact.
I believe we are going all out this portal cycle. That Vandy loss lit a fire under Heup.

-VN thinks Tim Banks sucks and has pretty much said anyone is an upgrade.
- VN says Josh Heupel won’t fire his buddy Banks.
-Heupel cans Banks. The DC search is on.
- Started to hear traction about Ryan Walters being the guy.
-VN seems to be kind of excited.
-However you wanna slice it, Jim Knowles has been a top defensive name in CF for quite a few years.
-Most on VN had him as one of their dream hires.
-Of course most on here, including myself, said Knowles would be a fantastic hire but it’s nothing but a pipe dream.
-All of a sudden that pipe dream seems to be more of a reality. Josh Heupel went out and possibly hired one of the biggest names in college football.
-As expected, we have dumb fans that somehow are upset and finding fault with Heupel hiring someone like Knowles.

Good God 🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄. I guess to some of you Josh Heupel can’t do anything right.
I don't often find myself in full agreement with you, but you are spot on here, good buddy! It's mind-boggling.
