Tony Vitello to SF Giants (Confirmed)

Sad day - this will probably come back to haunt us. Just like when Saban left LSU for the NFL, then returned at Bama after he couldn't make it there, we may see the same thing happen with TV.

All we can hope for is that he has success and retires from the MLB and doesn't land at another SEC school when he returns and then we watch as he does at that school what he would have done here and we are at the bottom again.
3 years and he's back at Arkansas. You know it's coming. Thanks Danny White.

You’re just not going to convince me that a national search that ends up with us hiring the Oregon or Kansas head coach, two of the reported top targets, is a more sure thing for this program in finding success than simply promoting the guy who helped build this program and recruited the elite talent on the way.

The optimist in me thinks there will be a “search” and “due diligence” and then Elander takes the job.

The realist in me thinks it will be a purge of anything related to Tony V. and it will be the most mediocre hire ever spun as “amazing things for baseball!”.

I really don't get it. Everyone wants Elander.. so if he fails, then no blame goes on Danny White and it was worth a shot anyways. If he hires his own guy, and that guy fails, then everyone is even more upset with Danny. But again, baseball doesn't move the needle enough to really impact his job security regardless.

To be honest, it doesn't matter who White hires. He won't be Vitello. We took a giant step back. When Dickey left for UF, I never dreamed there would be another entity I despised more. Then they screwed Majors. But this one trumps them both. My blood boils when I think of Danny freaking White.

if Tony does not succeed and does come back to college and goes another SEC program, even if it isn't Arky, I will lose all respect for him and hope for his absolute downfall at that school. if he goes to a program outside of the SEC, then all the luck to him.

I think you nailed it - there’s little risk in this for White if he goes with Elander. All the risk is on if he makes a terrible hire and things go south. Or a hire that causes us to take a significant step back. There’s enough crossover in fans that it will be felt - whether it impacts his job at this point is debatable - but it will be felt and the pressure will be on.

Women's basketball has never turned a profit even when Pat was the coach - the purported "profit" only occurred because the men's basketball program was making million dollar transfer payments to the Lady Vols basketball program to make it appear that they were profitable (much like the propping up of the WNBA by the NBA). This has been reported on......
Times have changed. Far more women’s games are on TV now so the Revenue is up. Ticket prices are more. I’m a baseball guy but WBB will come far closer to being in the black than baseball ever will.

Danny White did not hire the best coach on campus - John Currie did! And Tony V. was the best coach on campus by a country mile! Not Danny White's style to talk to Tony Vitello.
Currie also wanted schiano…I’m not saying Pruitt was better, but rather both were not of acceptable standard.

I do hope that it’s Elabder when the decision is made. I am in favor of continuity of current culture and the kids we have on team and incoming. Plus Elander and Frank are two awesome coaches, would like them to stay.

I don’t get how you automatically blame anybody before you even know the story
I’m still puzzled by some people not seeming to grasp the fact that he’s leaving to manage the San Francisco Giants. You’d think, given some of the reactions, that he was making a lateral move to another college program. This is literally a historic move. Legends like Augie Garrido and Skip Bertman never got this opportunity. If Jay Johnson were offered the chance to manage a top ten franchise, I guarantee he’d be on the first plane out of Baton Rouge.
