Tony Vitello to SF Giants (Merged )

I am a 50 year season ticket holder in football and a 7 year season ticket holder in baseball. For me, losing Tony as head baseball coach is a blow that I cannot comprehend. Losing a generational coach is far worse than one more loss to an old football foe. This upsets me tremendously. Tony is part of the UT family. He built what we have today. For me, this is the worst possible UT sports news.

I was Tennessee baseball fan before TV. I'll be a Tennessee baseball fan after TV.
Right? And if we can get Elander that's a great hire. A lot of upside. He's well-thought of and Tony has done a great job keeping him around. I think most fans expect that when he does get an opportunity he will have success. I heard someone suggest Elander would go with Tony, but I looked to see if I could find anyone else suggesting that and couldn't. It seems premature.

I'm not picking on you friend, but you don't have good perspective on this. He WON a championship. He IS being given everything he needs to win them. My entire point was that that's not going to be a factor in why he leaves if he does. He's stacking really good recruiting classes/portal hauls. I think the expectation, if he didn't leave, is more championships.
If White did indeed divert funds from his already limited NIL allotment, that's a rather injurious move considering the shark infested world of SEC baseball which many believe to be the most intense, highly competitive arena in college sports. It's akin to having a fighter compete with a hand tied behind his back. Unacceptable.

MLB is a really great and a unique opportunity. Tony loves Tennessee and nothing takes away from that. I’m sure this is a really hard decision for him because Major League Baseball is a dream job…just like Tennessee has become.

At this point in his career, Tony is most suited for college. But does he want to keep recruiting forever? Is the allure of coaching the top players in the world and coaching at the highest level stronger for him as a competitor? Only Tony Vitello can answer those questions. Crossing fingers he wants to stay at Tennessee.

Same. We haven’t won in Tuscaloosa since 2003. A loss tonight doesn’t move the needle for my frustration. Losing the best coach on campus is maddening and hard to come to terms with.

Not much we can do. He already makes a ton of money and there’s no way we can commit any more money to baseball. Next coach will be setup for success with the new additions if TV does indeed go.

Who said there wasn’t? Nobody on this board knows, just speculation. All rumors, including. NIL.

White is great AD and done wonders for our program.

Maybe there is an issue but i want to hear it from Tony or someone close to him instead of a poster on volnation or sports talk show.
Well, good luck with that. Zero chance that CTV publicly disparages his boss. He’s too classy, professional, and savvy to ever do that.

Agreed. Additionally I said early on they were slow rolling the LNS makeover.

Danny White has nothing to do with where NIL goes. The boosters who supply the money control that. It's their money. The idea Tony isn't getting enough NIL to compete is absurd, because I know where some of it is coming from and it's not something that is drying up anytime soon. Obviously he is putting together both top recruiting classes and top transfer portal classes. He has the resources. it's a bad argument on its face to suggest he doesn't.

Not even close LOL
Both programs were bad. Both hired great coaches. Both experienced success. Both coaches who brought that success to previously bad programs left for top tier “better jobs”. Both had/have a top assistant vying to be the replacement. And.. both were/are in a situation to hire from within or go outside the program for a proven coach.

Similar.

Technically not NIL but he certainly does for the $21M for revenue sharing as part of the NCAA House Settlement. it would be interesting to compare how much $ TN allocated for LV Softball, LV Basketball, and baseball.

From someone very connected: “I was talking with Eduardo Perez this afternoon - everyone in MLB circles is mystified by this thing. They don't understand how it makes sense for the Giants or for Tony. He said he thinks nothing will be announced tomorrow because MLB puts pressure on teams not to have this kind of news come out on a playoff game day, but it may be Monday”

Kind of like the $105 million LNS renovations that TV asked for and received ?
Right. He’s been given everything he’s asked for and paid handsomely. How many other coaches have had a stadium renovated to fit his exact vision? Now, all of the sudden, after an MLB team appears to be taking him, we hear that there is a bad relationship because a radio blowhard says so.

If TV leaves, it’s because IT’S THE MAJOR LEAGUES. He’s being offered an opportunity no college coach in history has been offered. But we want to act like it’s because of some sudden revelation that DW doesn’t get along with him.

I’m calling ********.
