All things STOCKS

Bill Gunderson trumpeted OSCR on his Wednesday podcast.

Thiel and the Kushners being in the shadows and the venture and hedge fund type of financial backing doesn’t give me good feels about them long term, but short term and middle term I can see it running for a while. I don’t like how they bail out of certain markets, but being small relative to the big insurance players they have that advantage.

I think that they’ve also exposed themselves to a lot of Medicare Advantage. I think that that is a mistake. Medicare Supplemental is by far a better option for most clients that can afford it. But the government might want to steer Medicare users to Advantage and there are a lot of gullible seniors that don’t understand Advantage plans and get sucked in by the heavy promotions. And it isn’t easy to switch from Advantage to Supplemental. If Medicare isn’t reimagined I think that Plans G and N will far outpace Plan C (Advantage).

I bet that OSCR HAS an exit strategy of eventually selling out to one of the major health insurance companies. They’re focused on the New York market and they (NYC) have the highest rates for Plan C (and Supplemental plans) coverage.

I like OSCR as a pretty good stock for the next few years unless Congress blows up healthcare in some way.
I see that as the plan too with only 2M people with coverage. Up over $21 in pre-market. Companies in medical/pharma/insurance/hospitals in expanding where they can get a value buy or product for their portfolio.

I wouldn’t touch hospital stocks. A hospital REIT is okay though. Or urgent care companies, but I don’t know if there are pure play walk-in clinics. The closest that I’m aware of is Davita (DVA) which is outpatient dialysis clinics. Hospitals have huge overhead, I’d imagine very expensive liability insurance, and I’m not aware if they get assistance from the government or not with ER patients that can’t pay. They can’t turn them away.

It looks like OSCR is doing what AMZN tried with Berkshire several years ago, but they cut their loses and got out. But OSCR looks like they target smaller employers.

I wouldn’t either. Thinking to when HCA went on a massive buying spree to expand in Florida around 10 years ago.

With RFK Jr in there, no clue how to play anything health related.

Looks like the big boys took a four-day weekend. Big snoozefest Friday..

Food companies are toast. I can’t believe what they’ve been able to get away with for decades and even now they have a large, multi-year window to correct their BS. Sugar and seed oils in everything. Chemical flavorings and color. RFKjr seemed nuttier than a squirrel turd and he’s making more sense than anybody when critiquing the industry. Diabetes is an epidemic. So is heart disease, cancer, and dementia. It’s criminal how politicians look the other way after accepting their campaign contributions from the industry players.

That is a great observation. Our food companies made us fat.

RFK Jr could help on that front.

I don't know what to make of him.

Cruise lines taking a major beating. All three down about 3%+ at the open.
Will people cancel cruises because of Iran? I don't think I would want to be in a sea that adjoins Iran.
Expect the cruise lines to make itinerary changes quickly.
I own all three.

I don't think many cruise ships go through the Strait of Hormuz, in good times or bad.

Mediterranean cruises that stop in Israel, yes, but I imagine a bunch of those have been adjusted already given what happened on October 7. My in-laws were actually going to go on a cruise that stopped in Israel and Egypt a couple of weeks after the attack and they swapped it out for a European one.

Yeah, most Americans are leery of the Middle East. We've Never been to Israel. Wife says she doesn't want to go now.
We have been to Egypt. Most interesting place we've been. You can walk inside the great Pyramid, although you will be crawling in some passages. Cairo traffic is miserable. It has horses, cars, mortorcycles, buses, camels---..
We have a cruise booked for in Sept that begins in Hamburg and sails along the west coast of Europe to Lisbon.

Uh, sorry. You don't have to crawl to see some of the inside of the pyramids. We were 58-59 when we did it in 2010. at 73 I wouldn't want to do it now.

Is the panhandling/harassment around the pyramids as bad as I've heard?

Well, there were 4 of us, and we hired a guide to show us the area for 2 days. We also had a driver of the van who was armed.
I think the guide kind of kept the panhandlers away. FWIW there was a group of 5-6 Jewish Priest visiting at the same time we were. They were dressed in their Jewish priest garb.
In 2010 the twin towers were still on everyone's mind.
The Nile at Cairo is Nasty. They throw/push everything in it. Trash, Dead horses, etc.
All the people we came into contact with were nice.

Vacation? Other places to visit?
I think you will enjoy it. Definitely a different world. Seems like The trip of a lifetime for children.
We are wanting to explore some other places outside of Cairo, mainly Luxor. Taking the kids cause they are into Egyptian history right now. I'll 100% hire a guide and some protection for the trip.

We were advised to not drink the water outside of reputable hotels. We did drink it with ice at restaurants without a problem.
One of the two ladies we were traveling with is Jewish. She was the most concerned, and relieved to see the Jewish priest at Giza.
There will be a lot of tourist. We felt safe, but I wouldn't were an American flag shirt in Egypt.
Hope ya'll have a great trip.

Lisbon was my favorite city I've visited in Europe. The food, wine, and architecture is awesome.
