I have to disagree. He isn’t an elite pocket passer, but he makes up for it with his speed, quickness, and athleticism. Definitely one of the best dual threat QBs in the country. And he makes a lot of plays after the pocket collapses whether it's with his feet or getting outside the pocket and making a throw downfield. I would love to have him come here. As most on here would, imo. He's not that good. I watched almost every KState game last year. He can run. Below average passer. We would be dumb to pay him $2M-$3M.
On the other hand, he did run out of bounds as the clock expired in one game last year, so he could keep that Milton-Nico Tennessee trend going.
It's not true at all. Leaving a program where you know the offense, and have a winning pedigree, albeit not playoff level to learn a brand new offense and gel with all new teammates in only 4 months is objectively not a better situation for most kids lmaoYou can call it rationalization if you so choose, doesn't make it less of a true statement.
I find this thread incredibly ironic. Everyone hates Nico because he’s a mercenary POS that put money over team. Yet everyone here is going bonkers wanting us to go poach someone who has the exact same qualities. Make it make sense. It’s just utter nonsense. I personally don’t want another teams starter as it just feeds into the flawed system. I hope we just get a decent player to add some depth. Yes I am older and think integrity matters which is why I would be a horrible division one coach. I would love to see one of our two existing Quarterbacks take over.
Makes us just as bad, honestly probably worse than Nico.
Kids leave for playing time and higher profile opportunities all the time. For what it's worth I don't think Avery leaves. It's a perfect fit for him. But there are others who want to play for a higher profile program and a better supporting cast.Gotcha. I'm sure Kansas State will be forever grateful to the kid for letting them know he's leaving them high and dry rather than giving them an Irish goodbye.
Isn't this exactly the parallel opportunity first rd QBs deal with each year? Drafted in April, starting in September. It's not true at all. yes it is, and its also why 90% of Rookie QB's forced to start immediately crash and burn.Isn't this exactly the parallel opportunity first rd QBs deal with each year? Drafted in April, starting in September.
For the right person, it could be exactly as I've stated, the right opportunity.
Does that potentially come with hurt feelings leaving teammates at the end of spring ball? Yes. And 100s of kids are doing exactly that over the next 24 hours.
All good here. At least you admit you want to win at any cost which is your right. My bigger point would be the mental gymnastics of Nico being a POS for bolting in the spring and being giddy trying to get another player for your team is different is nonsense. Two wrongs don’t equal being right. Tennessee loses the high ground the minute we do the same thing to another program. I just have a different perspective. I would play the long game and not feed into the sleeze of college football. It also sends a bad message to your players. In fairness I clearly stated I would be a bad college football coach. This isn’t a Disney movie my friend. You may get the warm and fuzzies playing our current QBs but after they throw a couple of INTs vs Syracuse and we start 0-1 you may reconsider.
We’re all hypocrites here. We like to take recruits from other states then get mad when our guys leave for rivals. It’s not illegal to try to get players from other rosters, it may be immoral to some but blame the NCAA for the system they’ve put us in. You have to do it if you want to compete. Otherwise we’re just going through the motions and become a school that’s just “happy to be here” like the days of Dooley, Butch, and Pruitt.

That’s fair. I hope he figures it out and learns a valuable lesson in humility. He’s 100% responsible for this but it appears like he’s not had the best role model for a father which isn’t the easiest thing to overcome. I would prefer we take a back up from another team that has potential instead of stealing another team’s starter and feeding into the mayhem. I also don’t think we are competing for a championship this year with a new quarterback showing up in the summer. I prefer one of our existing young quarterbacks take the job and build from there. I absolutely believe that will be in the best long term interests of the program and send the best message to the team. I easily see how others have a different opinion.Fair enough but I don’t want to call Nico a POS. I think the kid is held hostage by his dad, and I wouldn’t be surprised that in 5 or 10 years Nico speaks out and laments ever leaving Tennessee explaining that it wasn’t up to him. His dad probably controls ALL the money and decisions for the family.
Nico could even land at a smaller school, get less development and exposure, and hurt his NFL chances. It definitely hurts both parties as I think he would have taken the next step here in 2025.
I think you’re being obtuse. Big difference in an excused missed practice & a no-show/no communication. I’ve read enough of your posts to know that you’re not dumb.I think Kasnas State would allow him to miss a practice if it meant he would still be playing there in the fall. Do you really think that's worse than leaving? Lol.
I get the point, but mine is that the focus on the ghosting doesn't really matter if the end result is the same-- transferring out of the program that developed you.I think you’re being obtuse.
