Recruiting Football Talk VIII

So this might be a bad take, but I don't think Merk is the guy. His motion and mechanics are just too far off at this level to be a fast processor and accurate at the same time - the game will be too fast for him. The coaching staff is working with him on changing the mechanics but under pressure people normally revert back to the old natural style and it just won't work. His head will be spinning iMO.

GMac on the other hand has the tools, but how fast can he get up to speed over the summer. Could we see a two QB system for a few games? Can GMac get the playbook down enough to start as a freshman? If he does, does that have any impact on Brandon Faizon?

Portal QB - I think for all the reasons above you shoot your shot for a starting portal QB. I have heard some names floated but no one really knows until the portal opens this week. For any short term success I think you have to take a portal QB with the intent that he starts the season and then maybe GMac is your No 2 and get's up to speed quickly.

Well, I have put this off and put this off because I kept thinking I am just too young. However, when taking a leisurely walk around the neighborhood with the Mrs. leaves me in deep aching pain it is defiantly time to act. Not sure what purthes disease is, but prayers that you are living life to the absolute fullest.
We can just get Coach Kilmer to give you a secret shot in the hip and get you back up to full speed for summer ball.

AP came off like someone who has friendly relations with the Iamaleava family and didn’t want to speak ill on anything related to them or what went down. Which makes sense because he became close with them during the recruiting process. But definitely felt like damage control by AP.

Plus he said “ya know” 48 times

I’m so happy these kids are finally getting paid the money so “earned”
Things are so much better.
Unfortunately the pendulum has swung violently too far

the medium that won't be perfect, but will be the best option, is back the other way, but all the way back in the NCAA's loving arms

1. If this were true then every player would revert back to their old ways. Repetitions are what create consistency. But he may not be guy. Odds of him being the guy are slim but I’m rooting for he and gmac.

Reports that gmac was listening to the calls and simulating them on sideline making all the calls and being correct. Doesn’t mean anything could mean something. If gmac is good enough his freshman year to scare off faizon Brandon that’s not a bad thing. Still have gmac for 2 more years at least after this year.

Go get beat portal QB you can absolutely.

Very good. People that never played don't realize how tough it is to get a single offer. It's tough for most players to just get some financial aid. Getting more than a 50/50 ride is solid.

Glenville is a great choice. It seems like the new structure is to get some college game experience and then transfer up if you can or even want to.

It's a huge opportunity to just get his foot in the door and have a chance at the next level. Hope he does great things. That "discounted" degree will give him a big boost on a good life after football.
Yes sir! Like all kids, it’s gotta be “D1”. We shifted our approach his jr year, and here we are. A wonderful opportunity in front of him at a place he is wanted. The new facilities they are building are absolutely amazing for a d2 program! He had offers from a couple others that may be better programs, but he felt the best about GSU.
You are 100% correct on “getting foot in the door”, and was told as much by a couple of fbs coaches. Take the opportunity, put the work in and stay in touch (this came after signing day too).
We’re excited for him, and get to watch him continue something he loves.
Now, I get to focus on my freshman son that started varsity this past year as a kicker. He’s already getting attention. I’m just happy I know how to better navigate the next 3 years with him to save myself, and him, much unneeded stress!! Lol

A couple of interesting comments on RKW (104.5 the zone) this morning by Ramone Foster. He said GMac is the most accurate deep ball thrower and makes quick progressions to second and third options. Played in a Heupel style offense as a sophomore. Needs to add 20 lbs of good weight to his frame and once he does that he could be the starter. Ideally could add 12lbs between now and start of fall camp. Made the point that Meatchicken will be starting a 5* so why not the Vols. He has seen several scrimmages since he is MK’s booth analyst.

Gmac is the truth I can't wait for his era. I know some on this board are not convinced because he played for a JV team in high school but my god he's got the goods

I don't know. If he was always paid for potential what reason would he have to expect to be held to a standard strictly based on performance?

That's a fair point...but the issue is the staff has 2 seasons with you so they may also have adjusted what they believe he's worth based on potential.

Side A says "we're worth 4 million!"
Side B says "we've worked with you for 2 years now, the original rate is accurate"
