Recruiting Football Talk VIII

I just read it as Pate being really upset about it because he really loves college football.
I enjoy Josh Pate's takes and yes, agree with him that the focus should be on what's best for College Football. Yesterday, he spoke of legislation in congress put forth to deal with the NIL era. Sounds positive.

Tulane lost their starting QB (Mensah: 2,723 yards, 22 touchdowns) to Duke with the Blue Devils paying a reported $4mil/yr. Not sure Nico could get near that amount of money from Tulane as they signed two QBs already.
A) A bit amazed Tulane had a QB worth 4 million a year and, B) Duke willing to put out that much money for football?

I don't care if we only win 7. I'd rather win 7 with loyal players and coaches than be held hostage by Pre-madonna's for an extra win or 2, maybe 3.
No excuses, Just win baby!!! I hate what college football has become. We are hoping that we do something similar to Illini football or KSU.

Believe me, I am NOT a BB fan, and definitely not a Nico fan anymore

and there's nothing I love more than a good old fashioned comeuppance

but this has delayed their fate, at least for a little while

Bill is a terrible QB coach so I'm all for Nico likely ruining his NFL chances even more.

If Tom Brady isn't who he is absolutely NO ONE would talk about Bill Belichick as an elite HC.

2001 to 2019, That's the Brady in New England era...

Remove those years from Bill's resume

1991-1995 at Cleveland he was 36-44 with 1 winning season
2020-2023 at New England he was 29-38 with 1 winning season

Probably the worst possible landing spot for an inexperienced QB who needs to learn the game is UNC with Bill as the HC. It's exactly why his first class has 2 QBs in it and a transfer (Ryan Browne)... would be comical if they add Nico to that crowded QB room as well and he ends up riding pine.

I was thinking last night, I actually feel kind of bad for Nico in all of this. He bears his own responsibility and isn't without guilt, for sure, but at the same time, your family's ways are normal to you, even if they aren't normal. He's starting probably the first season of realizing that there has to be a different way than the toxic control, lies and manipulation that he's been presented as 'normal'. And it's a hard/expensive way to learn.

You have to hate seeing so much promise getting flushed.
Nico goes to practice and answers/returns calls from coaches, then maybe he deserves some pity. He is a grown man who made his own bad decisions, regardless of the influence. I don't feel the least bit sorry for him.

TULANE!!!

UCLA QB room for 2025:

Joey Aguilar (Sr) – transfer from App St (6000+ yds and 56 TDs over two seasons)
Demaricus Davis (So) – transfer last year from Washington
Henry Hasselback (So) – son of former NFL QB Matt
Luke Duncan (RS-So)
Robert McDaniel (Fr)
Colton Gumino (Fr)

Gmac is the truth I can't wait for his era. I know some on this board are not convinced because he played for a JV team in high school but my god he's got the goods
The thing I found most impressive about Gmac was that he was mimicking every play call behind Nico. I think he will be a stud.

AP came off like someone who has friendly relations with the Iamaleava family and didn’t want to speak ill on anything related to them or what went down. Which makes sense because he became close with them during the recruiting process. But definitely felt like damage control by AP.

Plus he said “ya know” 48 times
Been pretty darn disappointed by Vq’s coverage of this since it broke.

Heupel will figure out how to win at least 8 games IMO. He has a 75% winning percentage since he took over a 3-7 Tennessee program. The guy can coach, he will figure out 8 wins.
What gives me hope is that I feel like there's no way we get another QB that has generational accuracy issues.

Before the last two seasons, almost every Heupel offense has been prolific, minus the 2015 UT St and 2016 Mizzou. Talentless rosters.

He had incredible offenses at Oklahoma.

2017 Mizzou
2018 UCF
2019 UCF
2020 UCF
2021 UT
2022 UT

All incredible. He hasn't always needed generational QB's, he's just needed ones that can hit the WIDE open ones.

He got me fired up actually. Rallying cry to save the sport.

College football and basketball is at a dangerous spot. All I see are fans being fed up with it or threatening to be.

Doesn't exist without the fans.

I'll say this...if it's UNC or UCLA 100% you'll then see some of their QBs enter the portal as well.

I don't know if any of them would be good fits -here- but just saying, come Wednesday we can expect some chaos!

Also year 1 Heupel went 7-6... and we played 4 top 15 teams. Purdue loss 100% officiating malpractice and then Pitt loss was 2nd game of the year.

Syracuse, ETSU, Georgia, UAB, at Miss State, Arkansas, at Bama, OU, New Mexico State, at Florida, Vandy

Bold = potential losses...and honestly that would be my thoughts even if Gaston Moore was the starting QB. The other games are winnable off rushing game & defense alone (which is basically all we got from Nico anyway).

Syracuse will be breaking in a new QB though so might be a far more winnable game if our DL can take over.

I was thinking about the quote Tony V had about Nico after the OM series. He said something about watch on Friday. What was the trying to say? Does he know something?
