Take a Valium, it'll be ok.

You've been around a while, this isn't even that big a deal. Yes, we take a step back but playing the game Nico and his handlers wanted us to play gets you burned. So you put the fire out before you get burned worse.

We're fine.
Do you have any to spare?

Feeling better about the decision the more details come out. Still concerned about this seasons ceiling. Expectations being reset.

I'm hoping for the complete collapse and downfall of Nico in terms of landing spots. Not because of disdain for him but for the entertainment value on Twitter. It would be top notch content.
I want to see him slip bc we all know when guys enter the transfer portal they either don’t get picked up or fall big and with someone as big as him falling to a third or fourth tier type team may open some of these stuck up guys eyes and make them say yep I’m good where I’m at and it’s best to play for me but also play for my team and school bc my team
And school do matter

If the staff believed that either of those things are true they would have paid him. They did not. That tells me all I need to know.
I have learned through bitter experience...What people say on these situations means total 💩, if you wanna know the real truth of a situation...watch what they actually do.

Sounds like GM had a better day than Merk by a pretty wide margin. With that being said, everyone would be wise to keep in mind that the likes of Harrison Bailey, BJ Coleman, and Quintin Dormady all looked excellent in a spring game and were more or less worthless to the program on fall Saturdays. Meanwhile, Hendon threw a pick 6, looked pretty pedestrian in his spring game, and ended up being the best QB since Peyton. Just gotta keep things in perspective.
To add...I won't ever forget Bray's horrific spring game.

I cannot wait to watch Belichick vs Big Nick!
Nico burned any negotiation leverage he may have otherwise had.

It could have been, "I'm guaranteed 2.5 mil a year on a team that's competing for championships. What are you willing to offer to beat that?"

Now it's, "I got nothing. What are you willing to offer?"

What a bunch of Myrons. They'll ask Belly Check for 4 mil and a Bugatti and walk away with some Krystal coupons, a 1986 Chevy Chevette, and an opportunity to compete for a starting spot.

Funny, I think the rest of you are being dense suggesting a portal QB who has only summer camp to learn the playbook is worth $4 mil. I haven't been suggesting we cave and give Nico the money. I've been suggesting we stick to our guns and not overpay for a guy from the portal. If we were unwilling to give Nico $4mil, we don't need to throw $4 mil at a portal QB.

I have zero problems with cutting ties with Nico. He tried to extort the program. But let's all realize, he's not getting dropped because he lacks talent, he's getting dropped for being cancerous. He played well enough to get us to the playoffs in his first year starting. Everyone on here was talking about how he would develop going into next season. And there was every reason to think he would. One of the few highlights of the OSU game was him cracking his helmet, then going right back out there to play. So if we weren't going to pay him $4mil, I don't think we should be saying it's okay to pay a portal guy $4 mil. Save the money for Faizon Brandon.

So many of you seem to be missing my point. Or you just want to pay the next guy, no matter how he plays here, $4mil, just to say eff you to Nico. FFS, there's no need to overpay for a guy IMO. Worst case scenario we just roll with Merk. The only way I'm on board with $4mil is if it is somehow incentive laden, which my understanding is currently illegal. The last thing we want to do is pay $4 mil to a guy who comes in and under performs.
There are QBs that are worth top 3 QB money...that selfish pos wasn't. All he had was completely unrealized potential...period.
